I'm tired of Pro-lifers spreading misinformation about and misrepresenting abortion. I'm here to call people out on their factually and statistically incorrect garbage.

I’ve heard some mixed things about what happens after abortion. And strangely the slightly spookiest one to me was hair loss around the three month mark. I’m not sure if this is true, and if it’s only used to scare women from getting one. I’m getting one next week and all the hormonal things I’ve heard make me iffy. No, an abortion will not cause hair loss. It's scare tactics. Most women report relief after an abortion, but a range of feelings for a few weeks to several weeks after are normal as your body and hormones go back to normal. The APA even states that a single, first trimester abortion done in a medical setting does not cause psychological issues. There are also no proven long term health impacts, despite people claiming it'll cause miscarriages or cancer. IIRC, there is a link to bleeding early in pregnancy, but that's it.

Prolife people don’t see ~fEtUsEs~ as more important than women. Both have a right to live. This is very rarely a life for a life scenario and in such extreme situations when a mother’s life is in danger, most prolife people support taking the medically necessary steps that will end their pregnancy.

Why is fetuses is sarcasm text? Fetus is just a term for a stage in development. It's like saying neonate or juvenile.

Someone's right to life does not come at the expense of violating someone's autonomy. This is well established. On top of that, abortion is an extremely important procedure for female health, wellness, and quality of life. Science and research is heavily in support of abortion. If this is really about fetuses, focus less on abortion and more on preventing them, because legislation does not prevent them. At all.

The thought of getting murdered before seeing the world is unsettling. Is it bad to think that it can be cruel for both the mother and the unborn baby?

Think of it like this: If your mom got sick and she miscarried? If your mother was never born? If your mother was on birth control and made it so you couldn’t implant into her uterine lining after conception? If your father had a fertility issue? Hell, if your parents literally had sex a day later or earlier?

You wouldn’t be here either. I know it can be scary to think about, but you’re looking at it from a perspective knowing about existence. You simply wouldn’t have the concept of knowing. You wouldn’t have an existential crisis about it because you couldn’t.

As long as you get why abortion is important and needs to be safe and legal, respect those who have had abortions, and don’t spread false facts or emotionally charged arguments, it’s okay to have some reservations about abortion. I would suggest working through them, but what’s really important is that’s it’s legal, accessible, and without stigma.

The “what could’ve been” thought experiment isn’t exactly the most productive or helpful analogy when talking about pregnancies and abortion.

The fact of the matter is, we’re all here. The fact of the matter is, many didn’t make it. Some not from a lack of trying. Others are deliberately killed, greatly because of non medical reasons. What’s not to stigmatize about that?

Once we start placing arbitrary standards on what’s constitutes a human life, or which human life is more valuable than others, is when, in the end, all human life becomes valueless and there’s no need for moral reasoning or laws.

I'm literally addressing one anon. One question. One facet. You're grasping at straws if you literally think my entire position rests on the lack of awareness. It doesn't. The anon was having existential difficulties with abortion, and I addressed that. They didn't ask much beyond that, so I didn't. I cannot do an entire master level thesis about abortion on every question that wants a specific point addressed. People are free to go to my blog where you'd fine I never use this argument as a justification, only as a response to this specific point.

My main reason for supporting abortion isn't that a fetus isn't aware, but that because women have a right to bodily autonomy. They have a right to decide who or what uses their body, for what, and for how long. A fetus does not have an indefinite, inherent right to use a woman's body.

I recently went to the hospital because I had crazy stomach pains and a very high fever, only to find out I’m 7 weeks pregnant. I am not at the right position to have a baby right now due to so many health and financial reasons. Recently GA is passing a law on abortion bans too and i am VERY VERY desperate. A miscarriage is a natural or spontaneous termination of a pregnancy, meaning the body expels the pregnancy on it’s own without the aid of medicine or a surgical procedure. An abortion occurs when a procedure is done with the purpose of ending a pregnancy. With that said, the symptoms of a miscarriage and the symptoms of an abortion with pills are the same. Is it advised to hold off on sex/tampons after an abortion?

Yes, as well as as baths, pools, hot tubs, etc. I believe it's for 6 weeks after an abortion, but double check on Planned Parenthood's website.

It doesn’t make sense to be up in arms about abortion laws if you’re going to buy the pills online. It’s not like you’ll get in trouble or anything. I don’t see how it changes anything.

Because for one, once you take medical supervision out of the equation, the risks increase.

Two, it's only advised for the first 10 weeks. It can be used later, but with more risks. Surgical abortion is better in these cases.

Three, it's riskier to outright unsafe for people with certain medical complications and health issues like bleeding disorders, immunocompromisation, etc. They need to be done under supervision of a doctor in some cases.

Four, medical abortions, especially if they can only access Misoprostol, have a risk of incomplete abortion. Without the supervision of a doctor, there's more risk of this happening, especially if they aren't aware of risk factors that might make it more likely that a doctor would be able to catch and recommend a surgical abortion over. Some people need surgical abortions, and now will not be able to get them.

Five, while things can be done to reduce the chance of prosecution, it will still occur. Women can and will be criminalized for having legitimate miscarriages. They absolutely will be for home done abortions as well.

Six, not everyone will know about where to get abortion pills, and there may be measures taken to make it more difficult to get them as it catches on.

Seven, because bodily autonomy is a fundamental right, and enacting laws against abortion is a violation of the bodily autonomy of women.

Cool, if it's a unique human being, then just like any other human being, it has no right to use my body indefinitely without my consent. And consent is determined by the individual and can be withdrawn at any time.

However, the point is that anti-abortion people use misleading to outright fake pictures to uphold their ideals. They show mini babies that are often miscarriages, dolls, altered images, and IIRC a popular one was even made of fucking candy.

I'm not sure what happened to my last post, but with abortion propaganda going around a lot more now, I think it's important to show just how small an embryo is.

This is from my pregnancy. I was 7-8 weeks pregnant, gestational age. Fetal age would have been about 6 weeks. It's smaller than a dime. The first trimester (First 12 weeks) is when 90% of abortions take place. 60% of abortions happen in the first 9 weeks by gestational age.

So about 90% of abortions look something like this, give or take. Not like those misleading propaganda pictures which show mini babies at 7-8 weeks, huh?

This is what people are willing to take a fundamental right of bodily autonomy away from people over. This is what people feel is worth making rape victims suffer over and letting women get trapped in abusive relationships over. This is what people are willing to risk lives, safety, health, and overall well being of women and children over.

And that's just fucking ridiculous.

I was conceived in rape. Grew up in poverty, never knowing my bio dad. I was raised by my teen mom and an abusive stepdad. And do you know what? I still deserved life. I'm glad my mom didnt "put me out of my misery" by aborting me. She let me live even though her family told her to abort me. If abortion could be justified by saying "the kid will have a hard life," then my mom wouldve been justified in killing me. I'm glad my mom isnt prochoice like you, or I'd be rotting in a landfill right now.

My mom was raped around the same time she had consensual sex and wasn't sure if I was the rapist's or not. She was a teen mom too. Guess what? My mom is 100% pro choice. She made a CHOICE to carry me. If your mom was pro choice, she still could have very well still made the choice to carry.

And guess what? If she was pro-life, she still could have made the choice to abort. Here, read, "The only moral abortion is my abortion." You know what? I care about my mom. I love my mom. And because I love her and care about her, I would feel fucking terrible if she was forced to carry me against her wishes. My mom matters, her happiness matters, her physical and mental health matters, etc. You and I did not have any sense of awareness or concept of life while our moms were pregnant with us. We wouldn't know what we were missing out on. We wouldn't care.

I'm glad my mom is pro choice. I'm glad she was able to make the choice she felt was right for her, and that she knew she could live with. And if she aborted me? I wouldn't be here to give a damn, but hypothetically, I'd be glad she did what she needed to do to stay happy and healthy.

Abortion, when it comes down to it, isn't about some punishment for the fetus. It's not necessarily about some mercy for it either. It comes down to people have a right to bodily autonomy, end of story. The other considerations and science just help back it up and show abortion is a critical, important procedure for women's and children's health, wellness, and quality of life.
