This past Saturday I, along with my friend Hunter, attended "Beyond the Black Curtain," a showcase presented by the Kreativity Diversity Troupe. This show used dance, music, theatre, visual art, and spoken word to tell different stories regarding fear. It was very interesting to see how all of these different forms of art were intertwined to talk about the same topic.
This past Sunday I went to the Kennedy Center's final showing of Chicago the musical. I was especially excited to attend because Brandy Norwood was playing the lead role of Roxie, and I have been a fan of hers for years now. It was a fantastic show that I would recommend to all if it was still on tour.
This past Friday I, along with my friend Julie, went to UMD's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Based on the play written by Oscar Wilde, the production dealt with the timeless issues of pride, self-love, and acceptance. I recommend it to anyone who has a love for period pieces.
This past Thursday I went to UMD's screening of Moonlight. It chronicled a young black man's journey of self- discovery. I had seen this film twice prior to this screening, but the screenplay, cinematography, and acting is what makes me continue to keep watching. Five out of four stars.
This past Friday I went along with my aunt to a screening of I Am Not Your Negro. This documentary chronicles the story of what being black in America represents, and how that representation has evolved over the past few decades.
I attended a showcase presented by the theater department this past Thursday. No pictures were allowed inside, but I got to see my friend CJ participate in scenes that were written and directed by students of the school.
This afternoon I attended the Kabul Gibran Chair Symposium: "The Contributions of Arab Women Toward a Lasting Peace." There were no pictures allowed inside, but I had the opportunity to listen to a few very informative speakers.
Last Thursday, my friend Hunter and I went to the Point of Interest performance. It was really interesting to see how different feelings and emotions were enacted through different styles of dance.
Yesterday I visited the National Museum of Art with my mother. I was amazed to see such beautiful art in the form of sculptures and portraits, and I would love to go back soon.
Today I, along with my friend Hunter who is also in the Arts Scholars program, attended the DreamWorks information session, where we learned about who goes into the making of an animated film. It was very informative, so I was glad I was in attendance.
This photo was taken last Monday right outside of the theater where I saw the independent film American Honey at the Landmark E Street Cinema. It was an unusual but smartly-told coming of age story unlike anything else I’ve ever seen.
Last Thursday I had the privilege of visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum. I consider this a highly personal and graphic form of art; therefore, I was very grateful I had the opportunity to experience it.
This past Sunday I participated in a concert entitled Girls and Guitars. It was hosted at Busboys and Poets in Silver Spring and was held to honor the local talent in women that the DMV has to offer.
