WELCOME TO ARIDEA. WHO WILL BE YOUR PARTNER FOR YOUR JOURNEY…?
Chikoko: It often holds still among bushes or grasses, waiting for its parent or for small bugs, whistling to itself softly. It is easily frightened, and will often simply hold still in hopes of camouflage– but when it feels particularly threatened, it will release a loud whistle with the hole through its beak, and kick out at the attacker.Â
Pupcussion: These pokemon are endearing and fairly friendly. It enjoys headbutting things with its rock-hard nose, and slapping things around with its tough tail-end. Though not overly graceful on land, they swim quite well.Â
Blamb: This tenacious sheep is fairly aggressive, but makes a loyal companion. Surprisingly, it doesn’t use its horns to attack all that much– instead, it stomps its front hooves, triggering the orange beads to explode. Blamb tend to flock together, and create a massive percussive drumming with their stomps when threatened.Â

Chikoko - Grass typeÂ
Chick + Kokopelli
Chikoko (and the following line, coming soon~) is based primarily off a green heron (one of my fav birds!), palo verde (that’s where the yellow and the bright green legs come from), and kokopelli (who typically has a flute, and is depicted with a large crest).Â
Pupcussion - Water typeÂ
Pup (baby shark) + percussionÂ
The idea of the nose-bumping comes from the way sharks check their environment out: their noses are the most sensitive part of them-- they’re stuffed with all sorts of organs and have a clearer “view” of directly ahead of the shark than its sideways facing eyes do-- and thus they often bump them against things to get a better idea as to what it is.Â
The large tailfin of Pupcussion is inspired by a Thresher shark. As for the grey bit... you’ll see in the other evos ;D
Blamb- Fire type
Blam + lamb Â
This one’s not all that complicated to explain. Red mane because fire type, and I thought some black with white flame would make sense as a sheep (and white flame is the hottest-- purple is lower, hence why the flame is fading to purple on the edges).Â
Blamb’s influences really haven’t shown up in its design yet-- but you’ll see heh
I’m only doing sprite art for the starters-- but hopefully y’all will enjoy it! It’s my first attempt at really, 100% original sprite art.Â
Jackafawn: This energetic rabbit loves to fight anything it deems a challenge, and studies to be the best. Its punches and kicks are strong.Â
Jackadee: Evolves with speed>defense. This fast rabbit is quite the cocky and mischievous fighter, bringing pain with its high speed, devastatingly fast kicks, and sharp horns. It does not possess the pure strength of Jackamus, but makes up for it with agility. It normally engages in races and fights, hoping to find a challenge.Â
Jackapron:Â Evolves with speed=defense. By studying and mastering the ways of fighting, this pokemon has attained harmony. It often meditates and trains solo, with other younger and arrogant pokemon seeking it out for a fighting challenge. It is at peace.Â
Jackamus: Evolves with defense>speed. This strong, friendly pokemon often trains its strength in forests, knocking trees down with powerful punches, charges, and stomps. It’s not as agile as Jackadee, but makes up for it in brute force. It typically befriends a pokemon before challenging it to a friendly spar.Â
Who would you choose?
Notes:
Uh, a jackalope pokemon desperately needs to exist.Â
Parneigh: These pokemon wander the kelp strewn about on beaches and shallow water, and are quite fond of sea glass, shells, and other beach treasures. It avoids other pokemon.Â
Buckaneigh:Â Now evolved, this pokemon wanders the ocean floor, eating sea grass beds and stirring up trouble in its search for valuables that it typically hides in a cave or hole. It is unclear what it does with them, or why it wants them. It rarely comes to true land, spending most of its time on the beach or in the water, and it is mischievously flighty.Â

Notes:
I thought of the pun buckaneer and I just had to do this
The “feathers” on its head are actually meant to look like a sea pen!Â
Pecktrol: These pokemon are found naturally in underground that have contact with oil, but as pollution has spread they began to show up in above-ground water sources as well. They leave sludgy prints behind them, and are very miserable– at this point in their life, the oil is produced in excess, and they require constant cleanings to stay healthy and sighted.
Pecktroleum:Â It has more control of its oil, only losing control when it spreads throughout water. Though it smells foul, they are considered beautiful as the oil on them shines a rainbow of colors, particularly their eye stripe.Â

Design notes:
Birds affected by petroleum spills is an odd topic for a pokemon, but I think it turned out pretty well!
Battle Notes:
I toyed with the idea of giving it alt “cleansed” forms where it would lose its poison typing and by just water in the terrain of rain, or something. Alternatively, a rainy/watery environment could have a toxic spike like affect with the terrain, considering some oil leaks off. Something called “Oil Field” maybe. Idk.Â
Javely:Â Javely are extremely aggressive, and are able to shoot their deadly metallic spines at any enemies who come their way. When angry, they often charge, tusks first. They are easily assuaged by food, and spend their free time rooting their sharp tusks into the ground looking for roots and grubs.Â
Design notes:
I came up with the “Javelin-a” pun and had to do it-- so here it is. A javelin javelina. Isn’t it weird that two j’s can be pronounced so differently?
Also just fyi... the javelina banana thing is kind of a myth. See, javelinas don’t really care if it’s a banana or an apple or what. The important component is that it smells good and is tasty, really.Â
Besides, probably not the best strategy to get rid of them anyways-- it lets them know you’re there (which might result in aggressiveness as you look like a threat) and if they don’t feel threatened, they may just stop back for more.Â
That got a bit tangential. Oops.Â
Name: A shortened form of javelin/javelina. I got the idea of the -y ending from peccary, the javelina’s “real” name.Â
Battle Notes:Â It probably learns quite a few charging / bodily contact moves.Â
Tankchinoko: This is a mild mannered, slow moving pokemon. It can cross most terrains, and strikes at any perceived threats with its tail if it cannot hide from them.Â
Uroloopus: When high speeds are necessary, Uroloopus clenches its tail in its mouth and rolls around with amazing agility. It can easily bend itself to allow it to roll over rugged terrain, and is even capable of hops. It rarely comes out of its loop.Â
Design notes:
Gosh I love the hoop snake. It’s so hecking dumb.Â
Tankchinoko is pretty obviously supposed to resemble a tank, with Uroloopus bearing resemblance to a tire.Â
These might just be my favs so far, honestly.Â
Names:
Tankchinoko: tank + tsuchinoko
Uroloopus: Uroborus + loop
The uroboros/ouroborus is the serpent/dragon eating itself from greek legend. It represents infinity and cycles. Pretty neat.Â
Battle Notes:
Tankchinoko probably has a low speed stat and high defense stat, with Uroloopus having the opposite.Â
The signature move of Uroloopus is probably rollout.Â
Larvma:Â Larvma is a timid grub that hides itself in leaf litter and crevices. Though it is nocturnal, the way to draw these creatures out is to shine a bright light.Â
Mothma:Â Mothma is an elusive bug that hides deep in the forest. It is intensely fascinated by light, sometimes violently so, and will seek it out when it sees any of it.Â
Design notes:
These are pretty clearly inspired by mothman, haha!Â
Dropmel:Â Dropmel is quite an energetic pokemon, and loves to spring around. Its ears, back, and tail are perpetually wet. As it is a desert creature, the orbs of water that wrap its neck are extremely beneficial for it, though it only has enough for itself.Â
Dropmedary: Dropmedary are extremely valuable desert companions, often used as pack animals and water sources. When full, their bubbles can sustain both themselves and several people, and refill often. They are very common in the desert, both as pets and as wild animals.Â
Design notes:
I love numel’s line but it doesn’t even register as a camel for me. Too thicc. So I designed my own camel based on the whole “camels store water in their humps” myth.Â
The toes are kinda inspired by elephants
Baby camels actually are fluffy, hence dropmel’s more bubbly neck
Originally I wasn’t going to have the frothy neck bubbles, but both designs looked too... plain. Like something was missing. First, I was going to add rivers going down Dropmedary’s big bubble hump but then I had the idea of the bubbles.Â
Dropmel’s back thing is meant to look like a saddle.Â
Names: Dropmel is “drop” and “camel” combined, and dropmedary is a combination of drop and dromedary-- the kind of camel with one hump.Â
