This bugs me because people who are so fortunate to do porn really ask for too much. Not everyone is gorgeous nor can maintain a wonderful figure to get any popularity doing adult videos, otherwise you’d see even more porn actors these days. You’re fortunate if you have that in your life, if you’re gorgeous, well endowed or just genuinely attractive. Not everyone is and a lot of individual porn makers take it for granted.
Doing porn is certainly under appreciated in it’s value by many but it’s still at it’s highest value a fairly low value entity or product. It’s typically doing something that should be enjoyable and if it’s not enjoyable then you should NOT be doing it under the guise that it is. Too many porn makers I see charge on average about $1 for 1 minute of video which is too much. There are many professionally made porn videos and DVD’s that charge far less either through direct purchase or subscription cost. I could never see myself paying $20 for a 20 minute video of even my absolute favorite porn actress, it just seems entirely unfair to me. A well shot video without a camera man of me fucking someone takes hardly any preparation or set up. If I had a crew I could understand but most don’t have a crew and many videos and productions with crews STILL charge far less money per minute.
The biggest problem is porn is very disposable and typically what makes you cum once might make you cum one or two more times before you lose interest in it. Very rarely do you watch a video repeatedly for different masturbation sessions. It’s largely mood dependent and you may buy a $20 20 minute video while in a mood that you’ll never find yourself in again and have literally paid a dollar a minute at that point for a video. That kind of rate is awful to the end user and is usually what the end user is going to get out of a 20 minute video. If they really, really like the video, which I’ll stress is usually rare and not the case, you might get 60-80 total minutes of watching time for a $20 video giving you a fair rate. But on average you’ll watch a video or look at a picture/picture set once and NEVER USE IT AGAIN.
Porn being disposable as it is and being an extremely, EXTREMELY disposable entertainment is best sold in quantity based formats. Don’t sell your video for $20 if it’s 20 minutes or whatever. Sell it for $3 or $5, you’ll get many more sales. Now the argument of if 188 thousand people were going to buy your video you’d only charge $1 is sound but free video views will NEVER equate to amount of people genuinely willing to buy a video. But regardless you’d see many more sales at between $1 and $10 for a 20 minute video.
Now, I can’t tell you how many porn actors/actresses I’ve wanted to support by either paying monthly to their Patreon or buying their videos but could not justify the cost and as a result never did. I’m poor and lucky if I can support 2 or 3 people on Patreon per month and typically can only pay for 1 porn site a month in terms of my available disposable income. It also hurts that it’s easily expendable because there is so much free content available. You won’t compete with free content by charging high prices for your videos ever. You never will. I’ve seen dozens of videos I want to buy and still would happily buy if I could only justify buying them because I have so little money available. I can’t justify paying $20 for a 20-30 minute porn video when I can get a shitty porn DVD for less than $10 that runs for 40-60 minutes. You have to understand that while your job is more valuable than some people think, it’s less valuable than dollar per minute rates to 99% of people. I can assure every personal porn worker I’m subscribed to that they’d see more supporters and buyers if they’d drop their prices.
It makes me sad on several levels because many people resort to searching for bootleg or pirated versions of their favorite porn actors/actresses because they simply can’t afford to support them or the best case scenario is they can’t support them and don’t watch any free stuff out of respect to the creators. Neither of which is a win for the creator of the content. I’m so tired of people with beautiful figures, faces and bodies calling other people entitled when they’re asking for $20 for 20 minute videos or $15 for 15 minute videos. A fucking FEATURE FILM which costs millions of dollars to make does not charge those rates. They’re between 0.25 and 0.50 cents per minute on average and they cost and require far more work and man hours than a porn video.
I mean no disrespect and I staunchly believe porn makers are being screwed by the internet but there’s no compromise. So many try to make up for piracy losses by charging too much money for their content. The fact of the matter is many more people WANT to buy your videos and support your videos but you won’t lower your prices to see that it’s true. Not everyone but most at least. I know so many creators I want to support and want to buy videos of because I think they’re amazing or gorgeous or their content is perfect for my interests but can’t afford it. If I saw a video that I impulsively wanted to buy and it was $5 and not $20 you have about a 80% increase in the chances of me buying the video on impulse at $5 rather than $20. And as I said asking for $1 or even $0.50 cents per minute of video is asking too much. If you want to see 100,000 people buy your videos then ACTUALLY CHARGE $1 FOR IT! And you seriously will see 100,000 people buy your video.
The entire fucking world JUST CAN’T ACCEPT BLAME ON THEIR SIDE EVER. It’s never “oh well here’s what I could do better and here’s what you could do better.” Instead, you’re either an entitled asshole robbing the poor porn stars who’ve personally had their livelihood paid for with their gorgeous looks or you’re a decent person because you actually pay for ALL the porn you watch. It’s never a fucking compromise, it’s never a give and take affair. Porn actors saying their clients are shitty because they can’t or don’t pay for your content when you’re charging more per fucking video than the average feature length film is a little hypocritical don’t you think? I’m in support of porn actresses and actors but you have to be aware of the fact you’re in a massively over crowded market that is seen as low value.
