Hello everyone, Angel here !! Before you read the following, please note that this is MY OPINION. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE CREATORS OF TBATF AT ALL. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION ABOUT THE COMIC.
Thank you for reading now onwards to the rant :
What is tbatf?
TBATF is a fan-made webcomic based on the animated series Eddsworld. The comic takes place after the events of the official Eddsworld episode "The End" and was intended to be a continuation of the main storyline, delving into the Red Army lore and the "WTFuture" timeline.
In 2017 I heard about Eddsworld but I started getting into the fandom in 2019, I was fascinated by the characters, the writing, the story, literally everything about Eddsworld. Whenever I found this comic in 2020 I was absolutely obsessed with it. I loved the idea for a deeper dive into the lore for the Red Army and WTFuture but when time passed I started noticing the backlash the creators were getting. I was disgusted by their actions and behavior which led me thinking “Am I a bad person for liking and reading this comic?” So I dropped it completely.
In August 2025 I read the comic again and I definitely saw the flaws but there was still some things I liked about the comic .
Tbatf had so much potential in my opinion. It had a chance to be something special. the comic's concept was seen by many as having potential, its execution and the actions of its creators ultimately led to its downfall. The original idea of a more serious, lore-driven continuation of Eddsworld appealed to me. The art style was also praised by me.

-The creators: A major factor in the comic's negative reputation was the behavior of its creators. They were known for being highly defensive and hostile toward criticism. They would reportedly block anyone who wasn't praising the comic and were involved in several highly publicized incidents, including one creator allegedly telling a minor to harm themselves. That was a HUGE red flag 🚩
-Controversial and Unsettling Content: The comic included dark and poorly-handled themes that were jarring for a fan project based on a series known for its comedic tone. This included an infamous and controversial scene involving Edd, as well as the inclusion of Tord in Nazi-like imagery. 🚩
-Poor Characterization: The main characters' personalities were significantly altered, often portrayed in ways that were considered out of character. For example, Tom was depicted as a "huge dick" and a sociopathic jerk, while Edd was shown as obsessed with cola to the point of ditching his friends. 🚩
-Character designs: The Unnecessary Sexualization: This was a major point of contention. The comic's female original characters were often drawn in an overtly sexualized manner, with revealing outfits and exaggerated figures. This was seen as a poor decision, especially given the significant number of minors in the Eddsworld fanbase. The creators were also accused of sexualizing the main character Tord in promotional art. 🚩
-Controversial Symbolism: One of the most damning aspects of the character design was the use of Nazi imagery associated with Tord and the Red Army. While the Eddsworld series canonically depicts Tord as a communist leader, TBATF's choice to have him in a uniform with a design that heavily resembled Nazi attire . That was extremely offensive.🚩

While TBATF is overwhelmingly seen in a negative light by the Eddsworld fanbase, it's possible to identify a few aspects that were initially considered promising or were genuinely appreciated by some. It's important to note that these are often overshadowed by the many criticisms.
-Art and Visuals (Initially): In its very early stages, some of the art was considered to be quite good. The initial promotional art and the first few pages showed a lot of promise, with a detailed style that, for a moment, seemed to honor the legacy of the original series while adding its own flair. Some appreciated the more detailed and serious art style, even if it later became a point of contention.
-The Fan Project's Ambition: For a fan project, the sheer scope and ambition of TBATF were impressive. It showed a level of dedication and passion for the source material that initially resonated with some in the community. It was an ambitious undertaking, even if it ultimately failed. It was impressive even for a fan project.
(Again. Not supporting the creators. They’re horrible people.)

MY TAKE ON THESE 3 CHARACTERS:
Vlahd: I had a very positive opinion about this character. a character who was an officer in the Red Army and the father of a daughter. The comic portrayed him as a tall, strong, and well-respected figure. He was shown to be a "father figure to many of the soldiers" and had a very low opinion of Tord, often mocking him. Vlahd's character also showed a backstory of being a single father who was taken into the army out of fear for his daughter's safety. This depth and his disapproval of Tord were aspects that some fans appreciated. However, his characterization was not without criticism, noting his power was inconsistent and that he was a stereotypical "evil Russian man."
Sergeant Brianna: Sergeant Brianna was an original character in the comic. Information suggests that she was depicted as having a "good" alignment in a related fan series and was a childhood friend of another OC named Joanna. I loved her character and she looks very beautiful. I just wished we’ve gotten more time to get into depth about her character development.
Dick: Not much is known about him so I technically don’t really have an opinion on him. He just seems like a very fun character and we could’ve gotten more involved into his own character just like Brianna.
THATS IT FOR ME. AGAIN. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE CREATORS. THEY’RE HORRIBLE PEOPLE.
The comic wasn’t perfect but it was far from a bad idea. The creators suck though. Good idea, poor execution in my book. It had potential but it was absolutely wasted.
Have a wonderful day! Stay safe !! Love you !🌱
