“That’s mutual Ari, you are the most important person in my life.” She left it there for the moment, knowing there was more they needed to talk about.
When you grew up being bonded to certain people was something that many people can relate to. For Jeni, it was her mom, dad, and Ari. She instinctively knew the sound of their voices, how they smelled, what their heart sounded like when she leaned her ear on their chests, and many other personal details that you just grow so close to, that when they are missing from your life, it always feels wrong.
After listening to Ari share about college and her search for her, she softly kissed her cheek again. “My parents made me change my cell number after your dad forced us apart. They said it was better to not be tempted and cause problems for you, and I think they were right. You were dealing with so much, and so were we as a couple. The last thing I would ever want is to cause you more pain in that situation. I so wanted to tell you about my number. I think my mom asked your mom for the scrapbook I made for you that had my email address in it, so I know that wasn’t an option. And if you came by the house after high school graduation, well, so much had happened I wasn’t there for a long time.”
“I know what you mean about losing each other and losing ourselves too.” Jeni squeezed Ari’s hand. “Sweetheart, when I lost you and high school graduation came,” she paused a moment, “that summer I lost everyone else too.” She didn’t say what that meant, not just yet. She wasn’t sure if Ari knew about her family and what happened. She may not. But she wanted to give her the chance in case she already did.
“I think you were always your own person, even if you were trying to be someone you never really were, or could be. And I think, I think it was awful for him to try to force you to be someone you weren’t. And Ari, if you need help, I’m right here. You know I will always take care of you.” Jeni paused looking between Ari and the fireplace, or rather more accurately, the photo above it of her parents. They were all so happy in that family photo.
it brought a smile to ariella's face when she heard what jenifer said. she thought that she had no one else who cared about her, but that was no longer the case now that she had jenifer back in her life.
the person who always mattered so much to ariella was jenifer. the girl was the only person who truly understood ariella and was always there to help her. she would've done anything to protect her. it was part of the reason she broke up with her. she was worried that if they continued to date, sooner or later her father would figure out a way to break them up. and she was worried that jenifer would be more hurt then; then she would be if ariella did it sooner.
the blonde had never stopped loving jenifer, she knew the saying that you never stop loving your first love was true for her. jenifer was always in ariella's thoughts all the time. she had so many regrets when it came to how their relationship ended. she wished that she could just go back in time and get her younger self to not listen to her father and stay with jenifer. especially now that she was disowned by her father, she feels that breaking up with jenifer did nothing good for her. all it did was push away the only person out there that truly cared about her. "she did. my mom tore a part my room while i was at school to find out where i hid it, my parents really thought they could make me forget about you."
"you just made me feel whole and without you in my life, i felt like there was always a part of me missing." she said to jenifer. the blonde looked down and squeezed jenifer’s hand softly. "i heard about it from some mutual friends. my parents didn't let me do anything about the situation since they were worried that it would allow us to see each other." she said with a soft sigh. "i did send flowers, i just wasn't allowed to say they were from me. i sent your mom's favorite flowers to the funeral, then your favorites to your house." she didn't even know if jenifer ever knew that the flowers were from her.
"he just wanted me to be like my older siblings, super successful people who he can brag about to his friends at the country club. and when it came to me, i wasn't as smart as my siblings and didn't match up with him and his friends' conservative values like he wanted me to." she explained to jenifer. "thank you jeni. and know that i'm always here for you too, no one is going to force me to push you out of my life again."
