When I was in grade school (1999-2012), suspensions were not that common among my friends and classmates but where however the most undesired unpunishment and was feared among all of us as well having show proven results that suspensions as a punish do work. Suspensions though cannot be used for any niche or miniscule punishment but instead for more serious offenses and must be used to show the severity of what the child has done wrong. Spending extra time after school or writing an apology letter to whoever the victim is two examples of a punishment that cannot be on the same level as a suspension. Suspensions as a punishment absolutely worked during my childhood education and will most definitely work for the new generation Z students, but again only for the most serious punishments.
The reason why suspensions work as a good punishment to kids to prevent them from reenacting the problems again is that Kids understand all school punishments are given based on severity of the crime (were suspensions is the most severe only behind expulsions). Suspensions are rarely given out or are often given out incorrectly to students who don’t deserve suspensions which is one of the probable causes of why suspension be deemed as an ineffective punishment but in fact if used correctly it is. When a student is given a 1-2 day in class or out of class suspension, they are aware of the severity of the crime they did as suspension is a punishment only given to the worst offense. Mainly for out of class, another reason why Suspension work is that the parents of student should/will also punish the child for the crime he as done. A lot of the time when a student is given any other punishment, teachers or the principal will often not call the student’s parents to tell them of what they have done when in fact it’s the parent’s that have the most power to also change their child’s behavior. For most children, it’s the parents who have the power alone to change a student’s behavior because a parent will punish the child indefinitely when they find out they are suspended by grounding them, removing their phone, game console, outdoor freedom, etc. Suspensions as a punishment may sometimes seem as ineffective while in fact it sometimes takes times or may affect the victim’s future child in a sense to. In school, when suspended and sent home as a punishment they will hopefully look back and realize they have done wrong and not do it again. When they grow older and work however this will not be the case. When going against company policy, (sexual harassment, dress code, impolite to upper management for example. They will probably be sent home permanently and look back in their school days as when they receive suspensions and then hopefully teacher their children about obeying school rules and not being suspended.
The magnitude of the offense committed must be established to the student, the teacher, and the parents for suspensions to prove successful results as a suitable punishment. When Student are familiar with the severity of the crime and their consequences, they will reflect on what they have done, parents will ensure the toll of the punishment is fulfill to the greatest extent. Altogether, Suspensions is a punishment that should remain in the school system as long as it is used correctly and that the punishment is put in place both in school and at home.

Lesson 15, Task 2: What has influenced me?
My life is heavily influenced by the Persian culture that I obtained from my parents and their teachings throughout my childhood. Being born from an Iranian family, I have relatively conservative views despite being born and raised in Canada, a country that is proud of its multiculturalism, gender rights, and open arms to new immigrants from distant countries. Though my ethnicity is not the only thing that defines who I am and the actions I do. I believe The Common traditions my parents taught me when doing business, my taste in food, fashion, leisure activities and entertainment is all a part of who I am, and the development of my character is from them.
The cultural influences in my life become apparent when you notice the things I do, enjoy, prefer, and views when hanging out with me. My mother is to blame for my preference in food, as spices, deserts are my least favorite and dishes were meat and rice is the main attraction and are my favorite and is the reason I choose restaurants or family orientated sittings over fast food places or convenient stores. I’m kind of a dork and when it comes to fashion thanks to my dad and I dress like a “normal” person I guess however, when it comes to my girlfriend however, I get rather paranoid. I most definitely dislike clothing were a lot of cleavage is showing or to much of the legs is revealed. May be viewed as sexist, but I just think revealing to much is unattractive and considered “cheap” and women who are well dress as sophisticated, and well collected. Persian rugs are famous around the world for being beautiful and exquisite and Iranians tend to build their gardens and houses in many colors similarly to their rugs inside the house. I to view another person’s house in the same eye or even any corporate building in Toronto in my standards where vibrant colors should be visible in key parts of a building both inside and out. Leisure activities and my source of entertainment is quite different from the typically Iranian born male where dancing and going to shisha bars (place to drink, smoke, and eat pastries). My influences are from that of Canadians and other 1st generation born immigrants where there is no exact activity that can be mention because of the multicultural society we live in.
The influences in my life are the reason for the decisions I make in life as well as the things I enjoy. Being raised by my Iranian born parents, even though I have had views and ideas from friends and their families who are from other backgrounds, my character development is still that of a 1st generation Iranian. The daily things I do such as eating, having fun, or what I present, like the clothes I wear, or my thoughts/ideas that I explain to people represent who I am and what I’m. Influences in my life are all thanks to the parents who raised me and the people who I hanged out with during school, work, and other social gathering events.
Lesson 15, Task 1: Where do I live?
The town of Richmond hill resides in Ontario, north of Toronto Canada. Population: 185,540, 51.4% female, 48.6% male while at the same time, the city is aging with the age bracket of 0-14 and 15-64 declining and 65+ rising. Richmond hill is a relatively large town for a rather small size population when compared to Toronto Ontario. Richmond hill is commonly known for being a town filled with immigrants from a rather specific group of countries for some reasons. These reasons I believe are due to cultural values of these groups of people and because of these views they have, the aging population is also figured out.
The population of Richmond Hill has risen by almost 100 thousand since 2001, and I believe this mainly due the culture of people who migrate to this town and the general increase in population across Canada. The most common mother tongue languages spoken in each unit is English, Cantonese, Persian, and Italians when you included most common ethnic origins as well. English excluded because it’s a universal language, the 3 other origins mentioned above all share a view of being family above all else, are patriarchal, and are generally conservative (because of their foreign parent’s influence over them). These 3 countries (China, Iran, Italy) also share the extended family structure where they include aunts, uncles, and grandparents into their homes instead of leaving them in their home countries. Another reason for the rise in population and increase of an aging population is because Toronto has become a difficult place to live in (especially alone). Toronto has actually seen an increase in population by 300 thousand since 2001, while isn’t much but can still proves difficult and makes employment competitive due to the neighboring cities such as Scarborough, Etobicoke, and my city, Richmond hill. Because of the difficulty in living in Toronto due to high rent, competitive employment, Parents and children will living in commuting cities such as Richmond Hill and drive to Toronto to avoid high rent or mortgage rates.
Richmond Hill is multicultural town and is by no means greatly suffering due to an aging country/town or the cultural values of those who live here. Because of the family structure of these rather patriarchal family views were parents of the father live with him and the rest of his family, the population will increase as well as increasing the average of age of people living in Richmond hill and increasing the amount of elderly. With less stress from high rent/mortgage in comparison to Toronto, Richmond hill looks like a town more appealing to immigrants when comfortably migrating and adapting to a new country is tough.
