Dear Mr.Nowalk
HTGAWM 4x07 Promo āNobody Roots for Goliathā
The Subtle Poetry that is Laurel Castillo
I guess there are very few people who sees what's happening. Laurel is lost and broken. Deciding to keep the baby was what kept her sane but Annalise firing them broke her big time. She is not beyond repair, but she surely is headed to a dark and scary path. Probably darker than what Wes went through.
She held on the the idea that Annalise will be there. That she is not alone in fighting this fight cause she knows it's not over. But she realized that Annalise let go. Though Annalise may be living up to what Wes hoped she could be and what (as Laurel said 3x13) she promised them she would be, it does not dismiss the fact that she had let go of Laurel's hand and pushed her to this stingy road.
She believed that the baby was Wes. She never questioned it. That's why they showed the bathtub flashback. She knows she cheated on Wes and I beleive in her sincerity, how much she regrets and hate it. Especially with their last moments together. She never even got to talk to him cause he never answered her calls. I didn't wanna believe that she slept with Frank but we all knew it since last season, we just denied it.
She knows that the baby is Wes'. (How could you not? The doctors told her how far along she is when the explosion happened. She knows her math, that's how she ended up with that bathtub scene.)
But there is definitely a shadow of a doubt in her. She just never entertained the thought. Until Frank asked her. The shadow grew darker and casts a bigger shadow that even she is questioning what she thought she knew.
It's like if you leave the house and you are certain you locked the door, until someone asked you "are you sure?". You start to doubt what you remember and check if you did. It is not a complex idea or a complicated drama.
The great thing about Laurel is she is written impecably. Even her flaw and vulnerability is a perfect equation. They've played with how ones mind would work and it makes total sense. From her grief to her guilt to her pain.
Her grief was paralleled with Annalise. She have loved and protected a stranger and he's just gone. She failed.
At this moment she is the most vulnerable. And it has nothing to do with her being pregnant. Because she is just lost and broken. Sure Michaela and Oliver is working with her and Frank and Bonnie is somehow looking after her, but she is alone in her fight. She is struggling with something yet to be revealed. We only know bits and pieces of her story but we won't understand it until we see the bigger picture.
Even the story of her kidnapping is probably just a bit of that darkness in her head.
Seriously, what is worse than murdering your professor's husband? Chopping his body off? Burn it and throw it to the garbage? Covering it all up? Tying up a girl hostage? Staging a crime scene? shooting your professor? And this is just during their first year!
How could she have suffered something worse than that? What was her life before this? How bad was it that she is certain her father killed Wes?
We have seen a lot of her but it is still not enough to figure her out. So the simplicity of Frank's Paternity Claim plotline does not even grazed the top of how deep her story is. We just have to wait for it to be unveiled. And I'm betting, Bonnie's story will be no match to what we are to discover.

My brain is in shock! I MISSED PAPA CASTILLO SO MUCH!
She is lost and broken. And the path ahead is dark and scary. But I have faith in her. "...this personal growth will serve her well when the vagaries of the law would leave others astray..." Annalise Keating (4x01)
There were never just two... Bonnie Winterbottom, Original K5 and the Original "Quiet One"
Still the Best Character Development on TV! (I'm really sorry miss Stormborn) There is a certain power in her vulnerability that feels like an eerie poetry.

We have to look at the clues very closely. Wes' death was not to bring closure to his story. It was to end the Sam & Rebecca dilemma. They needed to refresh and move on from that storyline. The only creative solution was to kill off Wes. But here's what was left, (1) The "It's Christophe" phone call to whoever is "in case of emergency" (2) Why did Wes say "Why are you doing this?" Instead of "Who are you?" to Dominic? Clearly he knew him. (3) Sylvia Mahoney saying "You are so wrong in so many things" to Annalise (4) Who was Wallace talking to when he was shot? He was saying something about people might notice what they are doing. (5) Why would Jorge kill Wes? Cause he was with Laurel? Cause like Frank, he does not approve of Wes? Surely there is something bigger for Laurel to figure it out just by the presence of Dominic. Killing off Wes was a major creative move and it took guts. But it opens a bigger world. Something that would connect the corporate world of the Mahoneys, Castillos and Caplan&Gold. I think this season will be Frank's redemption. Same with Annalise. He'll redeem himself by saving Wes' baby. At least for once he is not the reason for a dead baby. There are three people who I think will be redeemed by saving/protecting Wes' child. Annalise, Frank and Connor. A Flaurel baby would limit the world within the circle and I think Laurel is too big for that small of a plot. They have build up her backstory for so long that it deserves to be on the spotlight. We all deserve a proper Villain, and that is Mr.Castillo. I believe that Wes discovered something or Mr.Castillo discovered that he was a Mahoney heir that's why he got killed. (It was all over Pete Nowalk's interviews, that they decided to keep the Baby cause it's Wes' and the story will be hinge to it's existence) I think Frank's and Bonnie's roles will be connected to their knowledge of Mr.Castillo. They definitely know more about him than what we are seeing. Wes and Laurel have always been a major player. Sam and Rebecca plot were just objects that jumpstarted the chaos. I think that trip to Ohio tick off PapaCastillo about what was going on and Sylvia Mahoney's DNA test was the trigger that killed off Wes. So a paternity test result proving that baby's family line is dangerous. I have pondered over Jorge Castillo (from the breadcrumbs since Season 1 up to Wes' death) and it all leads to that baby being a plotline goldmine. Heir to two huge empires, putting Laurel at greater risk which is scary and exciting at the same time.
Laurel is the most misunderstood character on TV. Everyone seems to feel AK's pain over Wes' death. But they don't see the same thing happening to Laurel cause they merely calculated the weeks they were together as a couple which is short. But remove their lovestory and the baby out of the equation and still, Laurel will be the one to keep fighting for Wes. The love story escalated her desire to keep him safe and believe in what he deserve, the baby is the fuel that is preventing her from moving forward and now her guilt over the lies add their last scene together. Wes was her only friend among the K5 and he died. Then she somehow realized that her dad killed him? Do people expect her to just stop, smile and take pictures of puppies for her instagram page? Wes was AK's first chance for redemption and yet she failed. That's why she's taking a different route than Laurel. She's choosing to be the hero Wes expected her to be. "Standing for the pawns of the world" (Wes, Season 1) There are only two worlds this season, Laurel's Revenge and Annalise's Redemption. #Respect to the writers of #HTGAWM. They're that smart.
This scene is as painful as it is exciting. Laurel is the best liar on this show. The painful thing is the look on her face waiting a response from Annalise. You can see Annalise is happy about it, we are talking about second changes here anyway. I think Laurel was hoping she'd be there with her to protect the baby as she was with Annalise protecting Wes. Toooo painful. But I do get what Annalise is doing. The thing is she doesn't know what is inside Laurel's head. Her suspicions and what not. I think Annalise is letting go of them to cleanse the palette. An overdo. Except that if only she knew about Laurel's suspicions and hunger for revenge, she will not be doing this. Characterwise, it is sad for Laurel. Not jusy sad, but just too painful. Cause 99% of the show was the two of them protecting Wes. Then he died and they had that scene at Laurel's appartment (S03xE13) when AK told her that Wes was cremated. And she promised Laurel that they will give justice to Wes and find out the truth together. So am guessing Laurel was hopeful that she'll also be there to watch over the last piece of Wes they have. But then again, AK doesn't know how dark it is inside Laurel's head at the moment that she is leaving her alone and unguarded. So I'm thinking the next best thing to protect Laurel is Frank.

Laurelās anger is rooted from something deeper. They already reflected it in the end scene of season 3. Annaliseās V.O., and Laurel on screen. (Laurel walking at the bar with the gun. Annaliseās Voice sharing with her AA group saying āI just wanted to protect him, to keep him safe.ā)
You have to see their common ground. They are the only two person who is genuinely concerned about Wes. Have gone through hell to protect him and yet he died. His death was a sign of their failure. Theyāve protected him together and separately.
Thatās why that scene in 3x13 was so important. When Annalise came to Laurelās house to tell her that Wes was cremated. Laurel said āIām just so angry. He deserves so much better than this.ā AK responded, āI know. I promise you, weāll figure out who did this to him. We owe him that.ā
I think Laurel decided to keep the baby because she believes that Annalise will be there. To protect Wesā baby and give justice to his death. Cause the baby can somehow cure a part of Wesā tragedy and can be a redemption for the both of them.
And then came the Season 4 premiere. Where Laurel happily shared her decision, expecting a response and yet AK decided to move on.
I think she felt betrayed and alone. Not in a way that you pity a single pregnant girl way. But alone in trying to figure out what happend to Wes and give him that thing he deserved. Justice. She was holding on to AKās promise.
I think itās a genius move from the writers that they are reflecting two different paths from these two ladies. We can reverse the scenario and it will still make sense. Make Annalise the one aiming to avenge Wesā death and Laurel the one moving forward, away from the rest of the gang to protect Wesā legacy.
Laurel is basically the young Annalise. She just seems to know things others donāt and she doesnāt need to share that plan to the rest of the world.
The parallelism is just too poetic.
Coz a #Waurel baby is precious people

He hasn't seen the light of day yet and the stress he had to go through... poor baby indeed... ...thank goodness that kid has Laurel's genes in him... Cause I'm pretty sure (in the words of Dumbledore) "dark days lies ahead..."
