Let this be a warning to ALL TUMBLR USERS TO NOT CONTACT DISCORD USERS FOR LIVE SUPPORT. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CONTACT THE TUMBLR SUPPORT, WHICH IS IN THE WEBSITE. And learn what two-factor authentication is.
NEVER FALL FOR IT WHEN A MUTUAL TELLS YOU THEY ACCIDENTALLY MASS REPORTED YOU. THEY’VE BEEN HACKED.
Let me provide a storytime about my stupidity in case it isn’t obvious >w< (I’m embarrassed about what happened, but I encourage to reblog this post in case you have followers as naive as me 😭)
So I’m in the middle of suffering the wrath of my uterus because I won’t get a baby, right? Then I hear a Tumblr notification. I picked it up, expecting it to be from my usual mutual, and then, it’s not. It’s from a long time mutual who I don’t really speak to!
They say, “Hello?”
And I, being polite enough to ignore the very obvious hesitation in that tone, I say hi back.
They go, “My friends and I accidentally mass reported your account before we realized that we got the wrong username, and I’m really, really sorry for that.”
They then proceed to send a screenshot of an email saying that my account is under deletion within twenty-four hours — but here’s the catch! There was a Discord username cited below, and the subtexts beneath it said, “Live Support. Certified Tumblr Dispute Support.” So my gullible ass went ahead to dm that user.
I gave him my username, my account, my age, my country because I’m dumb and illiterate for social media safety >w< huhu. (Okay, stop throwing tomatoes at me, I get it).
He ASKS me to give him money to serve as evidence that I, really, really love and cherish my account. And I don’t know how it still didn’t come through my mind that I was being scammed — I guess paranoia does affect your cognitive functioning.
I went to my mother, told her everything that happened, and she said that I am indeed being scammed. Woohoo! She also told me to change my passwords, but it was too late! The hacker changed my password, and I can’t even bargain anymore because he deleted his Discord account!
And here’s another funny thing I received in my emails! It told me that I sent an ASK to a DIFFERENT TUMBLR USER. TELLING THEM THAT I, TOO ACCIDENTALLY MASS REPORTED THEM. WOW.
