Hello there!!!!! ヽ(・∀・)ノ
Today I’m going to talk abt something I see very often among our MMDC!! (o・ω・o)
There is a very often-expressed idea about crediting model or effect creators. It’s very often that you’ll see a video or render uploader refusing to credit the source of their models, stages, and effects, for fear that their work will be copied and remade by someone else… o(>< )o It’s felt that linking back to their parts and sources would allow other people to create exact replicas of their content, so naturally, they will not credit publicly. ( ̄︿ ̄)
There are a few things I’d like to say about this! ヾ( ̄O ̄)ツ This might be a long long post, so please, hang in there!!!!! (¬_¬;)
So firstly, I don’t think this is much of a good thing at all….. >< I’ll explain why in a few reasons!!!!
Most MMDers edit or modify parts, models, or effects heavily before applying them to a render or video, rendering them often unrecognisable.
Most MMDers will not simply slap down an effect on a video. For example- they will edit the size, transparency, intensity, range, what area the effect affects (i hate English thx) all of that stuff!! (^^#) For lens flares and DOF effects, they will adjust the placement and range of the effect itself. The way you layer effects (their placement in the accessory draw order) also will affect how your outcome looks. ( ̄ω ̄ )
All of these things and careful effect manipulation can make effects look completely different- almost unrecognisable!! (ง ื▿ ื)ว Two people can use o_bleachbypass, for example- one can set it on a very dull, dark colour, and one can make it a highly saturated red by adjusting the numbers in the accessory panel. This creates two very different outputs!!! ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ
Effects themselves are usually highly manipulated and edited before the final render- This especially applies to more “complicated” shaders like raycast or NCHL!!!! (*/▽\*)
For this reason, an MMDer crediting a single effect can pretty much mean…literally anything, really. ( ̄ ̄|||)
The same applies to model parts- more experienced MMDers will edit and retexture their parts before applying them to their edits. You can really often see edits that have unrecognisable faces and clothes (Side eyes @ people who make 3DCG parts look good….somehow,,) (´-ω-`( _ _ )
Meaning crediting the original uploader won’t really mean much in terms of making it easy to copy since their part looks so different to yours! (#><)
For example, this is something I see a lot with the more “advanced” TDA KanekoRanou Miku edits, where the shirt or boots has been edited a lot in both mesh and texture by an editor. ( ̄□ ̄」) So crediting KanekoRanou and TDA themselves is deserved, but the final piece looks a lot different to KanekoRanou’s original TDA Default Miku. So it’s hard enough to replicate exactly. U feel me? (# ̄ω ̄)
High-quality uploads are usually quite hard to replicate or copy, regardless of who you credit and how much you credit!!! ( ` ω ´ )
Most creators have MORE THAN ONE SINGLE resource available for download.
This applies to modellers, texture makers, part makers, effect makers…everyone, really! (¬_¬;) Most creators create continuous parts or effects and put them for DL, so the person you get a resource from probably has 20 similar resources in their gallery! (o^ ^o) Most modellers don’t stop at one model, most part makers release lots of different parts. Game rippers rip in packs, usually themed, and from particular games. Things come in bulk. (*/ω\)
This especially applies to effect makers! (*ノωノ)
With people like Beamman-P, Otamon, Sobaro, Ikeno, etc. having high numbers of effects on offer. The majority of the commonly used effects in the Western MMDC come from the same maybe 10 people! (*ノ∀`*) And these 10 have 20+ different effects, all for download on their respective profiles!!! (ᵔ.ᵔ)
So, instead of crediting individual effects or parts, why not credit the creators instead? Listing the names gives rightful credit but still preserves quite a bit of secrecy, if that’s what you’re aiming for!! Credit the creator names!! (≧◡≦) ♡
Refusing to credit at all is denying creators the credit they deserve.
Part makers, model makers, effect makers, all work very hard to put out cool things for you to use!! (´ ω `♡) A full model from scratch can sometimes take upwards of 50+ hours to make, texture and rig fully!! ( ̄□ ̄」) Downloadable parts like clothing or shoes can take days to fine tune depending on complexity. Game rippers take time to carefully port files over. Effect makers spend HOURS AND HOURS coding things to create effects for you to use!! And remember, all of this is freely accessible without you having to pay a thing!!! (」°ロ°)」
Crediting is a way of thanking and acknowledging the creator’s hard work, as well as allowing them to see what you’ve made (which is actually a huge boost to a creator; it often gives people a kick to see their resources being used!!!) If they poured in all those hours to make something for you to use, can’t you pour in a few seconds to write their name in the description of your upload? (>m<) Small things really do go a long way!! (^^#)
I could say more, but I think I’d be repeating myself a bit… (–_–)U
*******ON ANOTHER NOTE…..
If you happen to come across someone who isn’t crediting properly, talk to them politely and help them!! (っ´ω`)ノ(╥ω╥) Don’t “call them out”, or send them insults, and certainly don’t send your friends to harass them. (*/ω\)
Talk things through first! You’re so much more likely to come to a resolution faster if you treat the other person with respect first. (# ̄0 ̄) Going in guns blazing and armed with insults will only end in the other person fighting back, and it’ll probably make them less likely to add the credits in the end, too… (´-ω-`) So be nice to each other, right? (*ノ∀`*)
