49th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

This was our second visit. AMAZINGLY, it exceeded our initial retreat. We are so fortunate to have found this "Heaven on Earth" place. The owners & managers, Bruce & Wendi, are all about the "details", from the surrounding grounds that 'Welcome' to the Inn's modern, updated asthetic appeal with it's immaculate cleanliness that sparkles, to meals that not only nourish, but also, taste ethereal. This is an experience that beckons to be repeated. We absolutely, highly recommend The Black Bear Inn in Arnold, CA.

“Beyond Expectations!”

Our 4night stay could only be topped if we had stayed longer! From our room, The Bordeaux Room, the artistically delicious breakfasts, the fresh air, tree lined setting, the charming gathering room, to the most hospitable hosts in Wendy & Bruce, we could not have been more pleased! Our room was so welcoming; warm, serene and comfy-cozy, with all the little first-class touches to remind you of how much the owners care about their guests! Each breakfast was unique and our afternoon cheese & wine tasting was not to be missed, especially if enjoyed on the patio amongst the trees! Bruce & Wendy welcomed us like old friends, took time to chat and answer all "my husband's" questions (of which there were many) and supplied us with the best recommendations for wineries, restaurants and hikes! Any superlative would apply to The Black Bear Inn! Thank Bruce and Wendy for making our visit exceed our expectations! Jim & Kathi

“A weekend getaway that never disappoints!”

I went with a friend who seriously needed to unplug and this was just what the doctor ordered. Wendi and Bruce took First Class care of us. Wine tasting at Twisted Oak, wine and cheese at the Inn, dinner at Dogwood (awesome new restaurant just steps from the Inn), Bruce's breakfast, hiking at Big Trees (never ceases to amaze) and so much more. Went back home fully refreshed. Can't wait to visit again!

“Great innkeepers at a lovely location”

After fighting the crowds at Yosemite for a few days, we were trying to head to the east side of the park but all high mountain passes were closed due to snow and weather. So we dawdled our way up the west side of the Sierra and stumbled upon Arnold after reading about Big Trees State Park. We completely lucked out, specifically on the Black Bear Inn and Arnold in general. Bruce and Wendy are real professionals at the hospitality business. They focus on details and are excellent in all aspects of making their guests feel welcome at their incredibly lovely inn. Grand rooms with high ceilings and lots of space, wonderful gourmet breakfasts included, local wines at complimentary happy hour. We felt welcomed in every way. Arnold offers quite a bit, including golf, hiking along the Arnold Rim Trail, wine tasting, Big Trees State Park, etc. The place is not inexpensive, but if you are used to paying for places you will find this to be a good value as well as a lovely retreat.

“A relaxing and wonderful escape”

From the moment that my husband and I arrived, we felt welcomed and relaxed. Wendi and Bruce go out of their way to make sure your experience is top notch. From helping us plan a romantic dinner, welcoming us before we even walked in to the Inn (a sign was hung out front that greeted us with a "Happy Anniversary" message), to the wonderful snacks and meal we had during our stay. The Black Bear Inn is the place to stay if you are looking for a romantic getaway, a relaxing weekend, or a place to gather with friends and family.

We stayed in the Monterey Room which has a laid back beach feel to it. The bed was very comfortable and the room spacious. The bathroom is amazing too! There is a huge jet tub, a walk in shower, and the whole room is large enough to allow 2 people to get ready together without feeling cramped.

The great room when you walk in is breathtaking. You cannot help but stand and stare for a while because the room is absolutely grand in every word. Wendi and Bruce have created a welcoming and relaxing environment that I know I cannot wait to go back again and enjoy.

There is a lot do around where the Inn is as well. There are quite a few small towns along the drive that have wine and beer tasting. Charming towns with antique shops, and great food to try. Or, you can just stay at the Black Bear all day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Inn and its grounds. This place is a MUST stay!

“A True Escape”

“Amazing Wedding Venue”

From the beginning to the end of our entire wedding planning process, Wendi was responsive, courteous and answered all of my MANY questions/concerns. I had zero experience planning a large event, and at some points felt overwhelmed. Wendi gladly stepped in and offered advice. Its very rare to experience excellent customer service, but Wendi and Bruce are experts at making their clients' special day flawless!! Our guests commented on how they felt "at home" at the Black Bear Inn. I am so glad we chose this venue, I would have never received the same level of service anywhere else. It was not only a perfect wedding day, but the entire weekend. Our friends/family that were lucky enough to stay at the Inn had nothing but praises. Thank you Wendi & Bruce for making our wedding day truly AMAZING!

“We love Black Bear Inn”

This is our favorite place in the Arnold area. We stayed there for our son's wedding. It was stress free, beautiful and immaculate. Bruce and Wendi were so thoughtful, and the breakfasts outside on the patio were a delight. We will be back! Just as soon as we can!

“Fabulous!”

My husband and I stayed for one night and we were sorry we couldn't have stayed longer! This was exactly what we were hoping it would be and more. Bruce and Wendy were so kind and down to earth-very personable. Room was clean, spacious and well appointed. Afternoon wine and cheese were yummy and the breakfast was to die for ... everything just spot on!

“A lovely and relaxing visit”

Black Bear Inn is lovely and quiet and relaxing. I stayed two nights and left feeling rejuvenated. The room I stayed in was lovely. Wendi and Bruce are gracious, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast delicious. The bed so so comfortable.

“Like Visiting an ol' Family Friend!”

Stayed at the Black Bear Inn in Arnold, CA with my brother for our fishing trip and it was as wonderful as I remembered! It was like visiting an old friend! The Proprieters, Bruce and Wendy were incredibly nice and we were treated to the five star culinary skills of Chef Bruce!!! We look forward to staying there again and highly recommend it!!!

“Lovey Family Retreat and REALLY CLEAN!”

We stayed here last year with our family of preteens and teens as we drove from Florida thru the Tahoe area and on to Seattle. It provided a wonderful place to "lay our weary heads". After driving over those winding mountain roads(decidedly UNcopasetic for flatland Floridians!), it gave us an oh-so-comfortable reprieve which we all appreciated. Clean as a whistle and welcoming-my kids said this was the cleanest place they had ever SEEN. The owner cheerfully "talked me over the pass" as i called-in a panic-thinking we were lost somewhere on the mountain. A delicious breakfast the next morning and a hearty(& ACCURATE) endorsement of the nearby Redwood forest successfully sent us-regreshed-on our way. Very very nice!
