These sketches are not ordinary sketches, they are drawn with a silverpoint (silver needle), on prepared paper. Old masters such as Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Jan van Eyck, Albrecht Dürer and other renaissance artists painted in this way. Drawing these sketches was a unique experience for me because the tonal variation of a silverpoint is much smaller than that of a simple lead pencil, which means that the depth of tone is much smaller and the drawing is lighter. And you don't have the ability to fix anything or erase it with an eraser, the line you drew stays with you forever :) What is interesting about this method of drawing is that the drawing ‘ages’ over time, because silver tends to oxidise when it comes into contact with air, and the tone of the drawing will change slightly. Also it is possible to draw only on specially prepared paper, on ordinary paper the silverpoint will leave almost no traces. Over time, it will wear off, and for a fine tip it needs to be sharpened.
