I'm back. with opinions ok. I've been in the 35mm fandom for so long (and like. Future/past demons as well) So i was always like Aware of the existence of Jasper in Deadland and assumed it was just like a regular ass show. I'd heard some of the songs and thought they were alright but never really got around to actually getting the story. Anyways so now I'm in a production of it so I have access to the full script and genuinely I don't understand HOW this never got big in the RSO-listener sphere because it's SO BAD. But it's bad in the most interesting ways??????? I can't stop thinking about it like I'll fall asleep thinking about the baffling decisions that went into this I'm genuinely considering writing an essay or a presentation or SOMETHING???? Because this show is crazy it's actually crazy. Not just even in the surface-level ways where they're like playing around with mythology and stuff but like I feel like it genuinely misunderstands fundamental aspects of storytelling and I need to talk to people who have read/watched the full thing because I can't keep derailing my own rehearsals to start discourse. Anyways. Sorry if you really like this show I will say the music is actually fire like RSO never misses it's just that the book is some of the most baffling writing I've ever read. it haunts me. Dead style.

Fear not i can explain. So the short version is it's like a teen pop-rock musical retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. Jasper has to go find his best platonic bestie most best friend who he is not in love with, Agnes, after she dies trying to jump off a cliff to, like, impress him? So he goes to Deadland, which is basically this mashup of a bunch of underworld mythologies, and has to go on various quests and meet wacky characters in order to save his friend, all while actively losing his memory. I'm being really negative in the comments below but I think if you listen to the music in isolation and never read the script it's honestly pretty good.
