Welcome to arrancxr!

I'm finally making a pinned post (I think this blog needs one by now), so here we are! :D

This is an Arrancar writing blog, started all the way back in 2015. I, your dedicated-yet-distractable admin, go by Liz. I'm 26 now, and while the special interest hype has calmed down considerably, my autistic little brain has SO MANY feelings about Hollows.

As a general disclaimer: I don't like canon. At all. And I'm frequently salty about it. If you're bothered by regular Kubo-bashing and blatant ignoring of canon, this is not the blog for you.

After 11-ish years of stewing in my head, my Arrancar headcanons are deep, extensive, and weird. Xenobiology, trauma, and the inherent horror of becoming something inhuman are common themes here, as is the portrayal of Hollows as very much Not People. Nsfw will be a thing pretty often, so read at your own discretion. (#Lemon is my nsfw tag, blacklist it as needed.)

Typically, only Arrancar characters are allowed for requests, but a couple of others will appear from time to time. Usually Aizen.

I run a total of twelve writing blogs on this site, as well as maintaining an Ao3 and working on original stories, so updates can be sporadic. I have no intentions of abandoning this blog, though, so please have patience with me when my mind is elsewhere.

thing ive always wondered about the arrancar, do you think they get to like pick out how their uniforms look or does aizen or gin or tousen just assign them an outfit they think suits the arrancars? does the hogyoku just fucking grant them an outfit? not really meant to be a request just sharing a question i think about sometimes

I'm inclined to think it's the Hougyoku option. :/ Both because that seems the most plausible (no fucking way are the Shinigami going to that much trouble for Hollows), and because it's the most in line with the crack fanfic concepts I got into this fandom reading.

The hogoyoku wanted to make magical girls but unfortunately it’s connected to Aizen of all people and his fashion taste is absolutely abysmal and boring (like him 🥱) so it settled for the best it could do

Drew this nearly a month ago…

Inspired by a random thought I had while reading @arrancxr’s newest chapter (go read the whole fic, it’s so good). Lumina and Verona are enough of background characters that we can somewhat play with their personalities. Considering how Verona acted after Szayelaporro ate her sister in the manga, I can easily imagine them as Ollie and Andy (the Pesto twins) from Bob’s Burgers. Thus, this was made.

You absolutely don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to, but what’s the Orihime(?) situation? Bc I haven’t seen bleach but you bring it up sometimes and it’s one of the few things I can’t piece together from context clues. So she was one of the “good guys”* and the espada captured her and she became friends with Ulquiorra? Or tried to be? Did he actually like her?

*I use “good guys” loosely here

Basically, the Orihime Situation was a "damsel in distress" plot arc where Aizen (the main antagonist at the time) kidnapped Orihime (one of the protagonist's closest friends and regular member of the Main Character Team) for uhhhh... plot reasons??? I guess??? Aizen is not exactly up-front about his actual motivations... -A-

Shortly after kidnapping her, Aizen determines that Orihime's healing abilities (which are really more "erasing the incident of injury altogether" than "healing a wound") are, as he outright says, "god-like", and thus, she's even more important than he initially expected.

He then proceeds to do absolutely NOTHING about this other than put Orihime in a room/cell and assign Ulquiorra to take care of her.

Ulquiorra is, of course, horrible at this!

However, while he's looking after Orihime, the two of them get into some discourse about the nature of human emotions, love, and trust in one's friends as opposed to self-reliance. Ulquiorra's outlook boils down to "I can't see the feelings, so they're not real", while Orihime, who is both innately very kind and also VERY bored, keeps trying to convince him that feelings do in fact exist, and are Pretty Nice Actually.

And it works! Ulquiorra does in fact come to understand "the heart"... buuuut only right before he dies via fighting the protagonist. Because of course his whole character gets disposed of then. :/

Anyway, Orihime's dynamic with Ulquiorra/the Arrancar is general is great. Relevant/extremely funny comic on the topic HERE

AHH! I’M SO EXCITED!

And Szayel is trying to be cool and put together but he’s scared and so is everyone else (though most of them have less pride about showing it lol. Poor things).

Did Tesla eat the orange??? I’m so scared he’ll think it’s poison and throw it away. I’m like no no no you’ll love it so much!!!

This is hilarious to me but I’ve never been the biggest fan of strawberries (I like them, they’re just far from a favorite of mine) but since that last Spirit Alive chapter, I’ve been noticing them more. Like yesterday I was around a fruit platter, and I reached for a strawberry first thing and ate it slowly, thinking about the flavor and what it must’ve been like for Ulquiorra. It’s like when I first read the Giver in middle school and started just staring at flowers and plants and thinking about their colors.

Any headcanons for Nnoitra?

My first request~~~ (๑꒪▿꒪)* These are just assorted headcanons, so please specify if you want anything with an actual topic!

-Nnoitra is very mistrustful of hands anywhere near his face. Even if he knows the person very well, the irrational feeling that they’ll try to blind him never quite goes away.

-He has a similar issue with his sword. If Santa Teresa is not within easy reach, he feels open to attack, and starts getting nervous.

-Nnoitra is very proud of his height, It’s one of the few parts of his physical appearance that he actually likes.

-He is really bad at friendship. Even if he likes someone, Nnoitra is just awful at showing it. His affection, when shown, usually manifests in ways that could be easily misinterpreted. Figuring out how he actually feels is hard.

-Not exactly a headcanon, but to my sound->color synesthesia, Nnoitra’s voice is a yellow/light grey color with grainy black bits, and the texture is a bit like sand made out of concrete sorta???? if that makes any sense.

For the Pet Au, I don’t imagine Nnoitra is a very agreeable pet, he seems like he would often find ways to act out that that don’t directly disobey what his owner asks of him. He’s sort of like an attack dog almost, kept around as sort of show of strength. Prettied up occasionally to show how powerful his owner is that they have control of him.

Yep, even existing as nothing but someone's property, Nnoitra is just plain vicious. If he's not going to be used for some violent purpose, he'd rather be dead— and it's only the threat of a fate worse than being put down on the spot (Fragmenting, for example) that keeps him from outright rebellion. He's not obedient, and certainly not pleasant to deal with, and he'll push every limit he can find in the hopes it'll keep him bound to the kind of brutal existence he deserves. He's valuable because he's huge, dangerous, and looks so very threatening on the end of a leash, and he's already resigned himself to all kinds of pain and mistreatment at the hands of whoever owns him because that's just what happens, isn't it? And in what world would a monster like him ever get a chance at something different?

This time, as a special 10-year event, the Arrancar Au versions of Aizen and Giselle are now also available for requests. They'll be requestable characters here from now on, and I hope y'all enjoy what I came up with for the Au!

I think even after Szael is no longer a test subject, it would be a problem... with his cycles out of whack his value might drop. And if cycles are taken advantage of as a method of control, would make sense he wouldn't have opportunity not to suffer either... except for when the cycles might get in a way of him working/obeying maybe? And I don't think the heat after suppressants wear off would be pleasant either....

Erratic, miserable cycles lasting long after he's escaped the initial situation that caused them would be a whole new level of psychological torment for Szayel, yep~ It's "proof" that he hasn't really escaped, that he's still stuck with the same shame and suffering even when his environment has so drastically improved. He doesn't want help, doesn't want to admit what's happening to him at all, but biological function is frustratingly difficult to ignore (or even hide, if he thought he could get away with it). It's imperfection in a form that he can't do anything to prevent, and Szayel dreads every time he's reduced to that pathetic state of helplessness and need.
