State Of Mind

For this project I’m using my childhood toy Winky as a way to show my personal experience with my mind. As well as some of its effects on others. Or more accurately how others react to me having a different state of mind.

A for a lot of my life people can sense I was ‘weird’ and didn’t know how to handle it and often reacted negatively .

This can be deconstructed down to how neurotypicals can identify people who are neurodivergent and even if they don’t know the word, will sense something is different,

Winky is merely a character on to which I am projecting my experience.

Life drawing

I was looking for an opportunity for life drawing as it was something my portfolio needs for applying to uni. And then the opportunity presented itself!

I was so glad when my college said that is was an option on one of the taster days I waited on teams, closing, reopening checking then closing again.

Concrete Jungle

With constructive criticism from peers I added colour to my piece. Adding green to places to show corrosion, specifically around the gardening ghost.

As well as letting the watercolour drop for a more abandoned look.

Concrete jungle

Initially I wanted more corrosion and vegetation but it’ll didn’t end up happening till later (see next post). But I enjoyed designing little ghost characters.

As for process I used card, fine liners, glue and a scalpel to construct my piece. Running into trouble when adding the roof as I hadn’t included it in the mock up design. Which caused problem when one side was 0.5mm bigger that the other.

I wanted to establish simple but interesting character types per ghost to make people interested in looking intently at each apartment. As well as small details like flowers and expressions to give them detail.

Concrete jungle

These were my attempts at mock ups for my physical format for my pop-up book. I initially struggled with how to picture it to this helped me make some great progress!

Giving me a foundation to work off of for the rest of my project.

However, next time I should also plan out the roof of the apartments instead of doing them last minute.
