It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all.
"Even the view of Ireland on the horizon is enough to make you think the wait is worth it."
"The most beautiful scenery, Robin! You’ll be amazed when you see it, it’s got castles as tall as mountains, too!"
"I should've known a regular Earth fairy like yourself would just adore a place as green as Ireland."
"Castles? That could prove interesting...and drawing inspiration from scenery could be a refreshing change."
"Finally. I was starting to get cabin fever. I think Chris was just circling around for a little while for the heck of it."
"What exactly is in Dublin, anyway? Besides bridges and a beer factory."
"Zombie Robin would probably be the coolest of the zombies, if that’s any consolation. I would totally not shoot you in the head."
"It speaks to me on levels that that is one of the sweetest things I can recall you telling me."
"Damn, it’s like a ghost town around here. Did everybody die, or am I just daydreaming again? Too dark?”
"My friend daydreams about my death amongst the masses -- how comforting. I'd hope I at least come back further in as one of those undeads you love so much."
Playing Matchmaker || Robin and Zoey
After giggling at Robin’s comment about her boots, Zoey’s eyes scanned the room, picturing what it’d be like to imagining what’d it be like resting against the velvet bench that backed up to a stone wall while sporting a floral dress compiled of vivid colors and chatting idly with the person next to her as a group of four boys performed various tunes, only to find out weeks later that the boys she paid little to no attention all those times had hit it big. She could nearly completely envision it completely, down the very last detail of their ties. But, she still desired to see the video and inquired, “By chance, could you please send me that link somehow? I’m sure it’s amazing!” She could foresee herself vexing those around her by playing that video countless times, her eyes glued on each little section of the video until she knew exactly what was happening in all parts of the video. Despite not being a complete control freak, she did enjoy finding tiny details in things and people that were endearing which caused her to analyze things she enjoyed and put in easter eggs, if you will, in all her designs and projects that took quite a while to find.
“Sorry about that mix up,” Zoey’s face fell, embarrassed laughter tumbling out of her mouth. Quickly, she picked right back up, agreeing, “That sounds perfect!” Skimming the area once again, Zoey realized that she had no clue exactly how this place ran food-wise. She caught sight of both a bar and various tables. Were there waiters? Is it an “order and bring back” type deal? She did her best to solve her miniature mystery by searching for a waiter or viewing what other patrons were doing. Being a bit after dinner for the typical Parisian, most customers were either already eating, dancing, or waiting for something or other. She wasn’t about to admit that she had never attended (or seen for that matter) a club before and embarrass herself yet again, so she stole a moment in hopes that she would be fortunate enough as to catch sight of someone ordering dinner or a drink without the use of the bar or someone lugging a meal to their table.
Of course, the stars were not in alignment so it was predestined that she would not have such luck. In a failed attempt to act as though she were not mentally freaking out due to not being equipped with the proper knowledge, she started heading in the general direction of the bar and seating area. After three steps she witnessed someone move from their table towards the bar. Her confidence minorly restored, she turned her head back towards Robin, requesting, “Come o-“
Before she was able to properly complete her phrase, someone who was clearly a body builder of some sort pushed their chair away from their table with the intentions of leaving and rammed right into Zoey’s right leg. The force knocked her far to the left, a yelp fleeing from her lips and faces beginning to turn towards the scene. Just as she was about to regain balance, she collided with a barstool and slid down the leg of the stool onto her bottom. The person seated on the aforementioned stool was in the process of lifting a fresh jug of beer into his mouth. When disaster struck he dropped the jug and balanced the stool and himself by keeping a hold onto the edge of the table, alas, Zoey’s story wasn’t so fortunate. The liquid poured onto her and the jug shattered to her side. To view the scenario optimistically, at least she wasn’t cut too badly. It took every fiber of her being to not break down and bawl in that very instant. She desired for this outing to go well more than she desired to see the Beatles live or have such bright red hair without dying it or own a Cadillac El Dorado…Robin seemed genuinely kind and she was the first person to share similar interests and it was her first being out with someone her own age. Everything that could go wrong had gone wrong, though, and she didn’t know how much longer she could force a smile.
After mustering up some strength, she told Robin, “I’m going to use the restroom. I promise I won’t be too long.”
Upon Zoey's request for the Beatles video, Robin nodded her head quickly, "Yeah, of course. Let me get your number before the night's up, and I'll text it to you." Ah, someone who spoke her language; it hadn't been a rare feat back home, living in a city large enough to find people from all walks but at World Wide Academy, it had been...different. Most times it has seemed only the criminally insane and the most over the top had only been aboard. But it was nice to have someone to talk to her shared penchant for vintage music and styles at the very least.
Eyeing the room of Parisians and tourists alike moving in rhythm across the club dance floor, most in arms with their special someone on that night, downing their last meals, drinking or making small talk, Robin's stomach had made just the fainted grumble that had mostly been muffled by the sound of music but no less shook her at her core. In retrospect, perhaps skipping lunch out of post-Louvre excitement hadn't been a grand idea. She was hungry and the aroma of whatever it was coming in the back kitchen hadn't been helping. But where to get food? She contemplated asking the bartender or perhaps someone who seemed like a regular at this place, but her French had only been limited to what little she remembered from class, and that mostly consisted of 'Where can I find the exit?', 'How much is this?' or the bits she learned on her own like how to ask someone out. None of these seemed very helpful in this situation, but much to her luck Zoey had seemed to have it covered with a burst of confidence that seemed refreshing from her nervous demeanor just a bit ago.
However the fleeting moment of contentment came to a screeching halt with merely two steps once a burly man that could only be likened to that of the crazed chef back aboard the S.S. McLean in size shoved back his seat in a quick motion, sending the petite girl flying over toward a barstool where a portly man had been seated. With wide-eyed concern, Robin's heels clicked against the floor in quickly paced steps to aid her date in distress. "Zoey! Are you -" Her words soon died at her lips once bad only gone to worse for just the bare beginning of the evening. It all seemed to happen in one quick motion: the shove, the fall and now the splatter of beer from a mug now drenching the poor girl's head and the crash of glass against the floor cutting her fair skin. Robin had only a moment to cup her hands over her lips, curved into an 'O' in shock and near horror. She stood silent, trying to sort and gather consoling words to say but everything had just moved so quickly, Robin's mind felt more like a mixed mess that couldn't quite seem to muster a single coherent sentence. But to stand there and say nothing would seem insensitive and heartless, so she dropped her hands to her sides once more and choked out a mere: "Zoey...a-are -" Though she hadn't got much farther than that before being cut by the red head excusing herself to the bathroom. Nodding with a small frown that she couldn't even muster up the effort to hide, Robin watched as Zoey left her sight, the corner of her lip being tucked tightly beneath her teeth while her rattled nerves for the girl sunk in. Now Robin had been the one who was nervous, all for the girl that seemed like she was ready to let tears fall. Though she hoped she'd seen wrong behind the alcohol dripping down her bangs.
Taking in a deep breath to calm her moderately shaking hands, the thought of following after Zoey to check on her crossed her mind; merely to see if she could find the words to help and clean up the drippy mess left behind. But after a bit more thought, she voted against it. A moment to collect herself seemed a bit better of a plan. Contemplating what to follow, it had suddenly dawned on her once Robin realized she still smelled the scent of alcohol, perfumes and cologne the fellow clubbers had held still closed in: they were still watching intently at the scene, staring down the small hall where Zoey had set off into to find the bathroom, some murmuring to company about the event that had just played out a moment ago, others merely staring in what could be humor, shock or a mix of the two. Robin's cheeks flushed a shade of red a second time this evening, her brows furrowed, spinning around in her heels with her hands placed at her rounded hips, "And what exactly is so interesting? Show's over!" She was sure most hadn't understood a single word coming from her lips, but in the moment she hadn't cared. Zoey was with her for the night, which meant she was just as responsible for her as she was with anyone else; call it pure sisterly instinct. Though the small crowd seemed to have read her harsher tone and body language well over everything else as most seemed to disperse into the club, continuing on with their business. Stepping hesitantly toward the hall to follow after, Robin figured it best to at least stand at Zoey's side in case she needed her...or in this case, outside the bathroom door. Tiptoeing over bits of broken glass and beer puddles, Robin padded down the short corridor.
”My french isn’t too good, cou au vin is chicken right?
"Yeah, it's chicken. But to be honest, I only knew that only after tasting it."
"My French isn't exactly something to toot my horn about either."

Playing Matchmaker || Robin and Zoey
Upon seeing Robin’s ease with the situation, Zoey’s nerves were subdued for the moment. She tried to remain optimistic, forcing herself to believe it was possible and in fact likely that she’d be equally as calm for the rest of the night as she was for a moment. This defied all logic considering Zoey was not a tranquil person in the least, constantly worried about something or another and whether or not she’s improving her relationship with her peers at all times. The inevitable resurfacing of her nerves came not even a minute after they departed with Zoey’s fumbling of the bear and the notification that her date was in fact allergic to the stuffed animals. She felt the heat rise to her cheeks, knowing their color would soon match that of her ensemble’s. In yet another attempt at recovery, she gave out her gave her “bless you” along with her profuse apologies and set the bear in her previous seat. “One second,” she requested, her pointer finger raised. In a rushed manor, she snatched a napkin from the bar, seized a pen out of her purse, and scribbled on the napkin, “Free teddy bear! Perfect for your Valentine!” She swirled around, prepared to balance it on the top of the bear’s heart but quickly turned around again, recalling that she was in France and a good number of the people who would be stopping by would not be able to decipher the text. She tried to recall what she had learned in French class, but in her anxious state it was exponentially more difficult than in normally. Knocking her head from side to side in an odd effort to recall the information, it finally came to her. Under the English, she jotted down, “Gratuit ours en peluche !”
She shuffled back towards the bear and Robin, her hair bouncing and a grin peaking onto her face, happy with her idea. She achieved her goal after resting the napkin on top of the decent-sized heart and then proceeded to explain to Robin, “Hopefully it’ll still go to a good home. My apologies for the wait and for the whole ordeal in general, again,” with an awkward giggle she continued and tried to steer the conversation in a way that could bounce in a different direction, “At least I’ll know what not to get you on your birthday!”
She prayed that was a sufficient way of ending the whole entire situation. Internally, she promised herself it would get better. She searched her mind for something new she could bring up that was most likely a common interest. After a slight pause, an idea came to her and she blurted it out without thought, “C-can you believe it,” her voice soon after picked up confidence, “Paul McCartney and John Lennon walked down this very hallway hundreds of times and had super small audiences that didn’t even know what they were witnessing! If I could go back in time to this very instant decades ago I could have been watching them play. I think I would cry!”
She figured that to be a fairly general statement, and if Robin was one of the few who wasn’t a fan of the Beatles it was at least an excellent conversation starter to see if they enjoyed similar bands. At home, her ¾ of her walls were lined with posters of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr with posters of 1950s and 1960s fashion covering the gaps. Vintage records hung on the final wall, all gifts given to her from people who had no use for them and didn’t care where they went.
“I don’t think either of us can legally drink here, but can I buy you an eat like soda or something to drink? Wait, no, a drink like soda or something to eat?” Zoey politely offered, trying to follow what she had seen in movies or read in books when it came to dates, but stumbling, setting her two steps back once again.
Another muffled sneeze followed by another, Robin could feel the rounded end of her nose beginning to itch and throat becoming uncomfortably dry. Her tanned cheeks flushed in both slight irritation and embarrassment, turning several shades of red the more attention she drew while her heart fell heavy with guilt. Zoey had went out of her way to by her a Valentine's Day present -- the first she had received in a while. And here she way, sneezing at the gesture while her date for the night's mouth spilled apologizes like a fountain. Robin could only find it in her to nod an 'it's okay', saving her sniffling voice. Much to her gratitude, the teddy bear was set side, allowing her take a couple of side steps away to catch a breather, the smell of other's cologne, perfumes, food and alcohol being a much welcomed change.
Curiously Robin watched Zoey as she made her way to the bar in a quick dash, only to bounce back a moment later, seeming quite proud. It had only been when she placed a napkin over the bear's heart had she caught on, fixing her cat eye frames to read Zoey's hand writing: Free teddy bear! Perfect for your Valentine! The text below had read something in French that she couldn't quite recall from French class but could only make the guess it read the same. A smile of ease came to her red painted lips, "I hope so too. It's alright; there's no way you could've known I was allergic. For the record: try and steer clear of blueberries too." Through her just slightly still tingling throat, Robin managed to just laugh it off, or at the very last make light humor in it before it was to be brushed aside. Her fogging head was clearing once more, the red in her cheeks and nose was beginning to diminish and now she could clearing hear the sound of jazz playing once more. Violet eyes behind frames flickered toward the stage, arms folded across under her bust as she swayed her head lazily to the beat the band play that seemed to move a good amount of the club to their feet. It'd been a song she could have sworn she heard once before in Quebec. Though her musings on what it was exactly were parted from her once Zoey called for her attention again. It was a manner of breaking the first date ice, and a good one at that. "I was thinking the same when I came in. Standing in the wake of musical greatness: I may never wear these boots again." Chuckled Robin, "I've seen video of 'em playing 'Please Please Me' live; nearly blew my eardrums off." When she had thought about it, that would've been partially her own fault; headphones, and all. But web searching at midnight for a report on Asian trade became boring after a while and some tunes were needed to keep her lively but not to wake her roommate...which didn't really work in her own favor as she ended up waking her anyway once the enthusiastic screams of fans rang in her ears and she yelp loudly in both shock and displeasure at the grating sound. "To think all of that probably went down right here."
Clearing her throat of the left over tingle that her allergies left behind, it'd been as though Zoey had read her mind...in some way. She was nervous still, he could tell. As to why, she couldn't. But Robin only hoped that she'd become more comfortable as the night pushed on. She hadn't considered herself intimidating in any way; maybe a tiny bit aloof in some ways, but not unfriendly. "Yes, you may buy me an eat like soda." Playfully poking fun, Robin giggled, "You pay for drinks, I pay dinner. Sound good?" She offered compromise, preferring to split the bill that night. It always made her feel guilty when really anyone bought her much. Plus, she figured this would be a good shot at paying Zoey back for the teddy bear.
Song of the Day Here Comes the Sun- The Beatles
"Hmmm, I could see you going closed-toe, especially if it’s chilly outside. My apologies if I ever give you unwanted advice!"
"Wha-you do? I never thought I’d actually meet one of my fans! Thank you so much for all your support! I’m stoked to be able to actually talk to someone who shares a similar interest in fashion!"
"You seem to apologize a bunch in general. At least three times in this conversation from my count. No need to, by the way."
"I wouldn't say my interest lies in fashion, per say. But I certainly know exactly what I like. I have more of a 'beat generation' style but your blog is good reference when in need of some pops of colour while still keeping it vintage. Plus it showed some pretty inspiring ways to match your clothes with red lips."
Playing Matchmaker || Robin and Zoey
Before only hours ago it had never occurred to the petite redhead that her very first date could be with another girl. Now, she was seldom prejudiced against her own sex or people who took interest in her own sex, but she had never quite pictured herself on a romantic outing that fell into the latter category. Despite all of this peculiarity, nerves still managed to take hold of Zoey. It was still her first date, furthermore, her first outing with someone of a similar age. She set her heart on making the most of her awkward situation, putting care into her appearance and even earlier purchasing a stuffed bear that carried a red heart in one of the local shops to gift her date upon meeting her. As she prepared, she had the bear rest against her purse in aim to aide her in not forgetting it. The inanimate object watched as she slipped on her cutest and most definitely classically retro red and white polka dotted dress, curled her hair, and slapped on lipstick that was a color identical to that of her bright red hair. After tugging her feet into white pumps, she threw on a cardigan, grabbed her purse and the bear and set out towards the previously decided destination-Le Caveau de la Huchette. Being a massive Beatles fan, she was giddy about being able to dine at a venue where they frequently performed in their younger years. After doing a bit of further research into the jazz club, she found it to have excellent reviews and with this information in mind she could firmly claim she was nothing under ecstatic to visit the place.
What the poor girl had not taken into account is the fact that it would be somewhat chilly in Paris. It wasn’t all too horrid until the frigid wind blew and called tiny bumps on her skin to rise. She hugged the bear tightly to her chest, doing her best to receive its warmth as she paced forward. Mentally, she took note of the fact that it was in no way intelligent to walk in heels during an evening in which it was only a tiny bit cold. To her good fortune, the club was only a few blocks away and her pain ceased a few moments after she stepped through its scarlet doors. She took her seat on a couch near the front of the venue, a band comprised of saxophones, trombones, and a bass stringing together notes to form an energetic song just visible at the opposite end of the club.
She leaned against the cushion and patiently waited for her date to arrive, anxiously fiddling with her thumbs and doing her best not to fret about her most likely messy hair. But, if messy hair was going to be the worst thing that happened that night then it wouldn’t be so bad of a night she decided. Before too long, she caught sight of Robin entering and stood up. “H-Hello,” she beamed. She extended the bear towards Robin, but in the process managed to nearly drop it. Recovering awkwardly, she informed her, “I have this stuffed animal for you. Sorry if you don’t like it!”
Curling the last lock of dark hair between the heated plates of a curling iron, Robin had given herself one last overlook in the full-body mirror attached to the inside of the dorm room door. Beret snuggly fit, hair neatly curled, eyeliner nor lips smudged, no wrinkles in her dress, no scuffs on her boots. Check, check and check. Releasing her hair from the iron clasps, she shook her curls free before taking an elastic band from her jewelry box to tie them in a low set side ponytail, all while holding a rather deadpan expression. She had honestly not known how to feel. One moment she was speaking to the little red indie chick in the halls, the next she was being taken on a date in Paris; by force. But on an optimistic note, it could've been so much worse. Zoey seemed friendly, cheerful...a bit overly apologetic, but nice all the same. But what slightly worried her was the idea of discomfort. From what she gathered from Zoey's dating form, she was looking for someone with a little more...testosterone. But thinking about it, if Zoey had been so opposed then she would've just chose to wander on her own for the night. So with this in mind, Robin felt the heavy thought become light in her chest as her tube of deep cherry has one last go around her lips before she grabbed her coat and made her exit.
The heels of her boots clicked against the pavement as she heard her taxi drive off into the distance. With the cold winter air blowing every so often, she had instantly regretted not just opting for wearing her contact lenses; the chill made her glasses fogged and hazy, making her remove them to clear the glass against her sweater dress. It had only taken her a moment to get tagged at the entrance as a minor across her wrist to avoid a drop of alcohol to touch her lips that night and push through the doors.
The sound of jazz filled the club and her ears which was an all too welcome sound from the loud, busy Parisian street. And while she loved the city and all of its romanticized madness, a tiny club filled with history was much rewarding. And just the thought of this place's history was completely exhilarating; her heels were stepping in the place of where the Beatles once stood! She could just faint at the very thought. But settled for a small smile as Robin removed her coat and draped it over her arm. It hadn't taken long before through the small crowd of mostly dark hair she spotted the bright cherry red hair. Stepping over toward the couch Zoey had was once sat comfortably, Robin had only picked up on one thing from the start: from her stance and tone, she was nervous. "Hey." Cracking a warm smile in an attempt to calm Zoey's rattled nerves, her lips soon pursed into the shape of a perfect 'o' followed by an embarrassing yelp once the cute, cuddly teddy bear at been offered. With her left sleeve, she covered her nose in distress. It had been such a nice gesture, but damn these allergies! "That's really sweet, Zo. But I'm allergic to stuffe -" Her nose tickled, her chest tightened and with a turn of her head, she sneezed, "...animals." Sniffled out the beat.
"That sounds like some cheapo romance movie my mom would watch. Two girls wandering around Paris, with a potentially disastrous blind date ahead of them. Then they meet some hunks in tight shirts that speak just enough English for communication, and they never have to go on the blind date. Too good to be true."
"The French can be known for their cheese, mon amie. In more ways than one."
"But you forgot the in between lameness of a fight about an old lover, a moonlight walk, all leading to the kiss beneath the Eiffel Tower. Then the credits roll to some overrated, watered down pop song that tries hard to sound deeper than it actually is. Sounds fun."
