Frances Hernandez is a Xicana artist and crafter. Her work explores universal themes of loss, death, and transformation. Frances draws heavily from her Mexican heritage both in imagery and technique. Mixing the traditional art techniques she learned here in the States with her version of the craft of "Repujado" learned in Mexico she creates mixed media pieces that are visual as well as tactile. Centering around the female figure and the light she emanates, Frances' recent work combines smooth brush strokes with tactile embossed metal elements. A testament to the fact we are a multi-faceted people rich in tradition. Frances began painting in 2005 and began exhibiting her work in 2012. She has participated in several group shows. Her work has been featured in Reflejos newspaper and she has been a featured ABLA (Art by Latina Artists) artist. Her paintings and crafts have sold to collectors in the U.S., Mexico, and as far away as Ireland. She currently has work on display in "Altares de Amor" a Dia De Muertos group exhibit at Sanchez Contemporary Gallery in Oakland, CA.
