Are you an artist, maker or musician looking to use your creative skills for social justice to forward the black liberation movement? Do you want to learn how to organize as a team to put on a one-day gallery exhibit, auction, concert and all-around party that raises material resources to working-class African people?
Join this open meeting to discuss the exciting new project hosted by the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, the “Art For Reparations Benefit Auction for the Black Power Blueprint!”
*** Meeting in person in Boston, MA; St. Petersburg, FL, together with a video conference call, open to everyone no matter where you are located around the country or world! See below for details***
USM is an organization of white people created by and under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party. We organize in the white community for reparations to African people. Art For Reparations (A4R) is a project of USM that challenges the parasitic white art world that has profited off of the labor, genius and resources of African people since the birth of colonialism and Europe’s assault on Africa. A4R offers white artists the opportunity to take responsibility for the parasitism of the gentrifying, colonial-capitalist art institutions and music industry by allowing us to use our creativity to forward the African revolution.
The A4R Benefit Auction for the Black Power Blueprint takes the idea that auctions were once a colonial tool of violence to sell enslaved Africans to white slavemaster bidders, and flips it on it’s head to be that of reparations to African people. The Black Power Blueprint is building incredible economic development programs by & for the working-class black community in St Louis, MO such as a venue space, community gardens, a community kitchen and so much more.
If you’re a white artist and consider yourself a “progressive”, take the true progressive stance by getting involved in building this powerful event!
There are 2 auctions planned, in Boston MA and St. Petersburg, FL, both in December 2018. The first organizing meeting on August 16th will be combined between the two areas and national/ international participants. In the meeting we will review the overall plan, new ideas from participants, open volunteer positions on the planning committee, and tasks to be done until our next meeting!
