I love feeling like little child, in awe, full of ingenuity at the sight of something new and fantastic. That's what it was like to see Heather in action. I don't think she knew I was looking (and I wasn't the only one), but I don't think she would've cared one way or another. In any case, I certainly did not know that she made a living recording events in this manner, so when Doug's presentation finished, I approached her to tell her how amazing her drawing was. She say thanks, almost a little shy, and then we parted. I had no idea that I wouldn't see her the day after, so left it at that, since I was hungry and tired and wanted to get home. Only the day after did Doug tell us about Heather, what she does and that he already knew her. I've been waiting eagerly for him to post this drawing, and now I can do nothing but share it myself. Enjoy!

I am naive, and thought we wouldn't have to deal with this at our new apartment. Home really, but when there's no hot water nor heat in the middle of the day in the middle of a gruesome winter... you get it. Not so "homey" anymore.
In reality, what I see as the problem is probably just a simple 'rationing resources strategy', a.k.a. hot water is only on before people go to work and after 5 pm.
I recall perfectly the amount of financial background we had to provide in order to get approved for this apartment. I thought... 'hmm... that must mean that they are very serious about taking care of the building and the tenants'. WRONG. Are they serious? Maybe. I don't know them personally. Do they care about the tenants? Maybe. But they care more about their pockets. Who knew!
Yes, I am naive indeed. But I'm moving on now- not being able to wash my hair again, and today I REALLY needed to, has tipped me over the edge today as I took my 20 second-long shower. No more nice phone calls. As a matter of fact, no more non-nice phone calls to the management office either. I am going to embrace MY resources and call 311 tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after.
aRTgulch... How does this relate to art? It doesn't. Except for that I feel like 'creating' trouble, and since I'm not the revolutionary kind, I end up creating word-rants that maybe somebody will identify with. Sorry.
I first met Heidger a couple of weeks ago at a fantastic workshop called Zen and the Art of Photography. He was attending the workshop; so was I. All of us loved photography in that room, yet oddly enough, none of us got to share images. We shared feeling, energy, questions, thoughts... but not images. Last night Heidger came over, joining us at a gathering with a few other good friends and artists, and even then we didn't share images!
Finally today, ten minutes ago to be precise, I've had the first glimpse to his work, and it is definitely worth sharing.
Click above and enjoy.

I got to this video through a friend who posted it on Facebook. I can't stop sharing it, since it so simply tackles so many of the issues that have come up in conversation with so many people in the last year. The art is fantastic as well, of course!
It's not what you see that is art, art is the gap.

After seeing "80 Egunean" (In 80 days) at the Walter Reade Theater's Spanish Film Festival last month, I was interested in seeing what else these young guys have been up to. I went to Sarobe film school with Jose Mari Goenaga, one of the directors of "80 Egunean" and founder of Moriarti Productions. Today I finally found the time to find more about their company and recent work online. I hope you enjoy this short.
