Actually I do think there is something to be said about many fandoms obsessing over this bottom=feminine thing. It seems to me to be the same thing as the whole obsession with tops and bottoms. I think it all comes down to fic writers not having enough gay sex...or fic writers having bad gay sex...many thoughts...
To bring it back to Byler, I think it also often appears in Byler fics in maybe different ways. I think often Will is made out to be very feminine, but also very woman-ly in the ways women often appear in the media around us. He appears to us as a sort of mythical broken housewife staring out of her window with a cup of coffee in her hand as she looks to her suburban yard, a perfect femininity waiting for the masculine to realise its potential. The agency to take control is taken away from him in many ways. He's a little breakable thing facing against the confused masculine that doesn't yet realise it is at his whims.
