the great gatsby is like. okay. i understand if these books were revolutionary at the time they were released but in modern context its just… not stuff that wows students or changes their whole perspective or whatever. “rich people live unfulfilling lives” is not a radical take anymore

i know a lot of it is supposed to be analyzing the writing style to reveal deeper meaning and all but it feels shallow when the deeper meaning isnt a major revelation but instead a common thought. its not engaging and ends up just reinforcing students hatred of assigned readings
