I still can’t chose if I want to be his actual timpani or his mallets, but I digress.

Probably a whistle siren or a car horn. I’m so serious the musical was WILD

I also have a friend who does bass and marching percussion like me and he played a jazz solo strictly by hitting his bass.

Taiko drums are traditional Japanese drums which are fun. Djembe isn’t very weird but it’s such a cool learning curve. Agogo bells look stupid as hell. Flexatone has been awesome. There’s a piece called Diamond Tide that a lower ensemble played this past year where the percussionists played glass cups filled with water.

goofiest instrument I've played percussion wise would probably be either a bicycle horn (steampunk suite) or those whirlybirds (the tubes you twirl in the air and they make a whooooo sound. for Angels in the Architecture)

Prev you’re right, I’ve never seen a violin bow used. Bass bows are used for vibraphones most of the time and it’s so frustrating when the hairs are destroyed as I use the same bows in orchestra as well as percussion. But yea bass bows are more common and versatile with a better and louder sound I think

Just remembered the whiplash I got from Harlan saying “timpanies” so here’s a little rant about it

Timpani is technically already a plural word. Even though it can be used for just a singular drum (ex. can you move the 29 inch timpani to the left?), the correct word for a singular timpani drum is technically timpano. Even if the orchestral setting that Kayne was in had multiple timpani players, they would probably just be called “timpani.”

Ok rant done I just remember my head WHIPPING to my phone when he said that, and I had to do a little psa for all my non music folks!
