Hey everyone. There's a new youtube feature that rolled out just yesterday that's raising some privacy concerns.

People in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, and Singapore can now share videos and chat with friends directly within the YouTube app. The update bring

This post talks about a new DM feature in youtube. What it fails to mention is that as part of this new feature is that when you send someone a link to a video, and they open it in the youtube app, they will see who sent them the link. Specifically, your channel name.

If your google account name is your real name, so is your channel name by default.

This means the new default behavior is that everyone you send a youtube link to will see your full name if they open it in the mobile app.

To turn this off:

Go to your youtube app settings

Go to Privacy

Turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"

Trimming the source id (the stuff after the '?' in links) will also prevent this from happening.

If you have multiple accounts/channels on the youtube app you will have to turn this off separately for each one!

Goes to university, gets roasted by a professor, spends like two-ish years ignoring his family to rob graves and build a guy, proceeds to be one of the worst single mothers ever, and overthinks his way into ruin.

Poor guy… accidentally became a single mother and a god and the worst of both. It’s totally against the point of the book but an AU where he at least tries to somewhat be a proper guardian to the creature torments me at times. But from the beginning he probably didn’t think the creature was going to come to life totally empty and innocent. He probably thought it was just a guy that he brought back fully grown like he was when he died, because he presumably left an adult brain in there.

And then he just leaves that guy in his dorm room. Excellent genius move.

We did get a bit of Victor being a single mother in the new movie adaption but that obviously backfires too. But movie Victor and book Victor are two totally different people. Can appreciate them both as separate entities but the book Victor is a bit more tragic to me because he’s presumably in his twenties when he decides to become a god and accidentally becomes a neglectful single mother.

Might make a bit of art about that AU.
