Guest Lecturer - Jason Evans
Jason Evans is a Welsh commission and fine art photographer born in 1968. He studied fine art before gaining an interest in photography, his main interest was in magazine photography which he first approached and started with that style. His style was defined as old fashioned where he like to explore the world and expand his knowledge from his curiosity for everything. Evans says there is no specific style he likes to follow through his art, he rather works by gaining the inspiration from a spontaneous moment, from that specific project. Evans also highlights, “People are more paranoid about the camera now thenthey were in the past!”.
Evans always questions himself to challenge the fantasy and in order to make and create work. Evans work is extremely influenced by many photographers such as,
Sigurdur Gudmundsson, has huge impact on his work because of his wacky sense of humour.
Robert Cumming, the American equivalent, as Evans described, to Gudmundsson.
William Wegman, an influence to him because of the thinking about the relationship between images.
Henze Boekhout, another influence because of how images can be constructed and deconstructed.
and Barbara Kasten, another main influence because of their wacky images in accordance to architecture.
Jason Evans shoots fashion editorial images for magazines sometimes however, he says that “fashion photography is propaganda… fantasise about what you want to wear but you can also fantasise about who you want to fuck… you can fantasise about anything.”
Evans current ongoing project is www.thedailynice.com where he uploads one photo everyday and they last 24hours and then disappear, there is no achieve for the images. This is based on Evans wanted to create images for looking at, nothing written about the project and no language to justify the images.
