Shoscombe Old Place
Even though it is the last in a series of six, there’s nothing to indicate that “Shoscombe Old Place” was supposed to be the final Holmes tale. Perhaps Watson, now probably in his mid 70s, felt rather daunted by the “mass of material” he still had at his disposal, and it is just as well that he decided to finally retire from his biographical duties to enjoy what, we hope, was a well-deserved rest after a successful forty-year-long writing career.
