We are proud to end Black History Month with a banging collaboration with Black Lives Matter.....
ARTNOIR x Black Lives Matter teamed up for their post campaign for Black Futures Month to present the work of Delano Dunn! Delano’s created a masterpiece focused on the theme of Revolution. Peep the poster and more here..
Thank you to all who joined us for the ARTNOIR +BLM Answer Time. ✊🏿
What advice would you give a person who is trying to reinvent themselves?
BN: Don't be afraid to become the person you will turn into ❤️
Hi! What's a trustworthy company from which to buy a BLM t-shirt? (I don't want to buy from a source that funds police unions or anything like that.)
MN-- Hey there! I would get one from a local chapter. You can find one at BlackLivesMatter.com.
Also, once our new website is up and running, you’ll be able to get one directly from us! Stay tuned and thanks for the support!
How should I best use my white privilege to bring attention to Black Lives Matter and convince people of the merits of said movement?
MN-- Talk to your friends, family, cousins, co-workers, every white person you know about antiBlackness and white supremacy.
AntiBlackness lives in every corner of the world, and inside all of us. Yes, even Black people, and it usually manifests as internalized oppression or racism. So we all have to work to undo that in ourselves and in the world.
I can talk facts and numbers and write stories all day, but some white folks will never hear it from me. That’s where the work of white allies comes in. We need you to do that work, because it’s emotional laborious and draining, and it’ll most likely be better received coming from a white person because, honestly, that’s how white supremacy works.
When does cultural admiration turn into cultural appropriation? What is the line you draw?
BN: I draw the line where there is a glaring lack of research and representation is skewed
Do you think its ok for you to have less friends than usual if they're true?
BN: Yes, as long as it’s okay with you :)
when you dream at night in sleep do you dream in art visuals because its part of your waking life or do you dream regular stuff like the rest of us, falling or ...?
BN: I dream abut everyday life. My dreams are pretty vanilla actually
I'm young, black & muslim with family that are surely going to be in danger now that Trump is president... what can I even do?
MN-- Hey love. Thanks, this resonates with me. Do what you need to do to be safe, number one. Let me be very clear: the very best and most important thing you can do for the fight for Black liberation is to take care of your Black life and those of your loved ones. Find happiness. Be joyful. Invest in many different forms of self-care and yourself.
I wrote a piece for Black Futures Month on being Black and Muslim, you can read it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/black-muslim-futures-matter_us_589894fde4b09bd304bc5291?h9phtrg09ec4ygb9
Also, feel free to hit me up directly, you can find me @mickynoir on Twitter. Sending madd love <3
I care more about overpopulation, the ongoing destruction of this planet, the oceans filling with garbage from sea to shining sea, and other species, than I do about "BLs." The truth is I'm sick of hearing about BLs. They're no better than anyone else but our culture is obsessed with them. Not a Trump supporter, or a supporter of politics. Yes I know that bad things happen to Bs. Bad things happen to everyone. I just don't give a flying, flaming fuck anymore. :)
DD - I’m sorry you feel that way. Bad things should not happen to everyone. Why don’t we all work together to make sure that stops happening.
How do you feel with the fact that BLM is now considered a terrorist organization?
BN: To be honest I don’t feel any way about it. Nelson Mandela was classified as a terrorist by the US government until 2008.
Mister Dunn, how much time do you put in on the BLM organization still going strong? - Frostbite883
DD - This is really my first public support. No particular reason why it’s taken a while but with a family and school it can be hard to find the time. Regardless I’m proud to support this cause.
What kind of art style do you like?
DD - No such things as art style in my opinion.
How do I start selling my pieces online? Any advice or tips?
BN: 1) Build an inventory2) Have a business model that works for you.3) Know the risks4) Use social media to build on your brand personality5) Copyright your work!6) Find a platform that’s best for your budget7) Create. Create. Create.
favourite album of all time?
DD - Aja by Steely Dan
Favorite music to listen to while working?
BN: I listen to a semi-underground South African house music sub-genre called “Gqom” (and no, you probably didn’t pronounce it right in your head)
