My #mentalhealth volunteering coordinator handed me a stone paperweight to paint something positive and/or cultural on. Being inspired by stress relieving coloring books I’ve seen, I doodled a #mandala and decided sky blue and white worked great with the shimmery purple paint for a #galaxy themed river stone. On the reverse side it says #peace with birds and stars around it.
What happens when you have an endless unused supply of index cards from college? EZ BIZZNESS CARDS, YO! And the lines on the back encourage me to write down personal reminders for people because if going to cons has taught me anything, it’s that I’ll forget why I cared about someone’s thing enough to get a business card…I’ll wonder if it’s one of the cards forced upon me and that I never cared at all…and I’ll promptly discard it (no pun intended.) #instaartist #instaart #creativity #art #arte #business #diy
Soon, I promise. Any requests will be taken at that time. I'm focused on my studies right now.
How long have you been making art?
I've always enjoyed creating things, so any formal education was just a handful of school electives to bring what I already love doing into my academics. That was in middle and high school, but I had/have been teaching myself even outside of that. I'm currently 22, so let's say 20 years, just because I probably didn't have a lot of motor control as an infant and wasn't allowed to hold things I could poke myself with. Also, I remember being a toddler and ruining the walls in my parent's bedroom with my art, so there's that. (Sorry, dad. I thought you'd like a neon yellow dog under the window.)
What do you do when you're not making art?
I like learning about the mind/brain, so I'm pursuing psychiatry at the moment. I also enjoy learning languages (though not yet fluent in any other than English). Related to that, I love traveling. Music has always been big in my family, so I've learned to play the piano, flute, and some guitar. I used to study martial arts and would like to resume training when I have the time.
Where do you get your inspiration?
A lot of my art is homages to my media interests, TV shows and musicians and the like, but I always have a notepad handy for striking moments. Sometimes it's the way the atmosphere around me feels, sometimes it's a lyric or thought or statement.
Can I share/use your art?
You're welcome to post on any social media so long as you credit me and link my page. I would prefer if you share directly from this page (or my tumblr.) You're also welcome to print out my work or use it as wallpapers as long as you don't claim credit or otherwise unfairly benefit yourself from it. Also, don't remove my signature.
Do you have a Twitter/Instagram/DeviantArt/YouTube for this page?
I primarily use Facebook but I’m @artofheidilange on tumblr and Instagram. I may get a DA and YT in the future.
Did you REALLY draw that?
Yes. It takes anywhere from hours to days, but technically every piece is years in the making because I've practiced since childhood. And fun fact: I'm not against tracing as a tool for learning or creating. I am against it as a method of stealing, however.
Is that a drawing of you?
Probably not. It's not of you either. Please stop staring at me as I draw. It's very uncomfortable.
Is your style anime?
I used to draw "anime" style in elementary and middle school, but nowadays I consider my style inspired by many artists. I've Liked them if you're interested in rifling through their work.
Why don't you animate anymore?
It takes an immensely long time and I typically prefer to complete things in full day sessions or less. To a lesser degree, I'm not very familiar with the software I have and it crashes a lot on my computer.
Why don't you draw _ anymore?
Probably because I just haven't thought of anything to draw about it. I probably still like it, though.
I asked you to draw something and you never did. What gives, yo? I don't need it anymore but still. Jerk.
I'm so sorry. I started it and other life events and priorities came up and I never finished it and now when I look back at the work in progress, part of me wants to complete it and part of me wants to burn it. When I open commissions, it means I have the time and resources to follow through.
I also am an artist! Will you promote me?
I'm trying to build up this page focusing on my own art and other promotions would break up the consistency. I love that you're pursuing your art and I'm excited for your growth!
What are your art supplies?
I'm pretty simple. I believe that the wielder is more important than the tool. Sometimes I draw on napkins with a hotel ballpoint pen for goodness sake. Most art supplies I have are gifts from friends and family and so there's a wide range and I wouldn't necessarily recommend everything. Message me for specific questions if you like.
Will you teach me how to draw?
I can recommend some resources if you message me what you’re looking for, but no, I don’t have the time for that. Maybe in the future I’ll make some tutorials.
I still have something you gave to me! Do you remember it?
If you show me, I'll probably remember and cringe in embarrassment at the level of skill I once had. Thank you for keeping it for so long! It's always a huge honor and treat to know someone cherishes something I made. :)
A wonderful friend who supports my art arranged to get me some art supplies including my very first Copic markers...which take some getting used to. The RWBY season finale happened recently so I decided to draw one of my favorite characters (and one of my spirit animals, let's be real.)

I adored the art style of the Netflix intro and promo pics so I made my own piece inspired by it. The purple man is obviously...the purple man. I prefer my underlying sketch for its likeness to Krysten, but it turned out pretty good despite only having used pastels four other times.
