Witch-hunt Gossip has always been a secret language of friendship and resistance between women. By Hannah Black
“I began this account of the gossip with her enemies to show how important her speech has been, although it is mocked as trivial. Hatred of gossip is hatred of women talking to each other – it is generally women who do this work of love. When we gossip, we share vital information: this one is sad, this one is in love, this one is dangerous. In most families, news of birth, death, failure and achievement travels through the women. Communities of gossips nurse each other through the degradations that partners, bosses and families inflict on us. Without the love of gossips, most of us would be either dead or dead inside. § “

And I’m sure that if they were here today, these witches would be doing a lot more than striking a pose, they’d be busy protesting our dying forests, fighting the polluting of our waters, and protecting the planet. I like to think they might even have been part of The Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell or W.I.T.C.H. a radical feminist protest group whose manifesto stated witches “were the original guerrillas and resistance fighters against oppression — particularly the oppression of women — down through the ages.”

SCAB ART is MAKING ART for THEM.
Passing time while you are waiting for something to happen can be ruthless. This is a way to find moments and measure time when time feels impossible. It's a way to process the waiting and to be ready for something in a different way. This is a crochet project that requires at least 300 diamonds to make cubes. This is a puzzle project. There are lots of firsts for me in this one and a lot of learning. Finding ways to join shapes, and work colours together. This is mid project. Around 150 diamonds to go and one quarter joined. This project is pleasure based and if it weren't for waiting around for a baby to happen, I wouldn't have the time to see it through. Every part of the timeline/process of this blanket is a project in itself.

stories around art projects the work we put into pieces and their contexts. scab art is about making art outside of class consciousness? who do you make stuff for? why do you make it? how many hours did it take you to make that 3 minute song? I can knit 46 stitches during a 3 minutes song unpaid labour what am I doing? atleast minimal communism this is not for wages. this takes a lot of time, comprising my stories, and relation to making things. Remembering the hows and why's and whens of process working through stages, fixating on the middle.
This is the sweater I made Ellis for recording my albums. It took a long time. It's made of a cotton/acrylic mix. It turned out beautiful. I think it worked out to the equivalent of 45 hours or so to make. maybe not. I wasn't paying attention because I was in the most beautiful place, losing myself in the days, going for knitting walks in the fall, up north. I started this sweater in spring of 2015, and gave it to E around dec when I returned to the west coast. As you can see the background of the video is full of fall leaves. they fell while I was knitting this sweater. xo This song is called Movie Life. It's by Where you've been, that's where you're coming from (WYBTWYCF). This amazing artist is also from a project called True Crush. I'm a big fan. you can find WYBTWYCF here https://wybtwycf.bandcamp.com
see you there

Sweetest songs by dear dear pals. I’ve listened to B’s music since I was a teen and I still love it more than ever, so so much. You should listen! Tape coming out soon..
Awe!
Another video about unpaid labour that should never be paid. This is a new blanket for a new season of artscabbing. I’m homeless and this is a good thing because….. The home according to bell hooks is the bedrock of where we learn domination. hooks states “unlike other forms of domination, sexism directly shapes and determines relations of power in our private lives…most intimate context - home”(hooks, 1989). hooks urges that this location provides a “practical setting for feminist critique, resistance, and transformation” (hooks, 1989). Just thought I would share that connection. Also, I think I would probably identify with homefull, not homeless, because I have lots of places to stay and many homes to be homey in. Only one friend asked about my mental health and how I would sustain that through the next months of homefullness. I have to say, because of the ways things have been going (chaotic state) I hadn’t thought of that. Considering this, I will have to choose one place for myself out of all the places I will be staying to think of in this way - stable home. I choose the community centre in vancouver. It’s brilliant and useful and even has private bathrooms. Anything to get away from paying rent after my trillionth eviction. I have to heal my heart from the eviction. Being rejected in housing landlord after landlord in favour of condo development hurts. I can only take so much rejection. Featuring music by Upside Drown. The song is called Open Palms. It was recorded in winter 2011 in Oakland, California on a 4-track. upsidedrown.bandcamp.com/album/ep

Baby Blankets: pt.1 with song “Dreams" by Badlands
Badlands comes from the California desert. During their “Dark Dreams” tour, they brought their newly released 7-inch and tapes to Vancouver, along with tiny zines about romancing cactus plants. Badlands played a house show at Thor’s palace. The show was packed and all were dancing and singing along. They were here just in time for the first hints of cherry blossoms. This album has become my spring album. This time of the year in vancouver is so special, especially when you listen to things over and over. Because driving around listening to the cassette, which is a split with Ripe Mangos/Housings, is all I have been doing since I picked it up and the streets have been full of blossoms and lovely tiny flowers. I’m in love with this song writing and this becomes so special when you are listening to something over and over while knitting or crocheting, or doing any time length craft project.

This blanket is for my cousin’s baby. It is a crochet project. A single stitch plain blanket with extra soft yarn. I’m up to 16 hours on this piece, and will post the 2nd half later, with a total number of hours I worked on it for.
Sock Debt is a video about long term repayment. I have owed this pair of socks to someone who contributed $$ to a project I am part of, for over a year. The socks are also a stand in for the original thing I was supposed to make, but the original thing turned out to be too dangerous. When you think about paying people back, in the moment, you might trade anything, but you realize quickly, that there is a physical object you must give, and then there is the mental weight of carrying around the idea of the thing owed. Until, you can get around to finishing it. The long awaited moment where you can give the thing, and finally make room in your head for something else. you realize that besides the obvious satisfaction you might get from knowing your friend is wearing your pair of socks some where, it's never really worth it. not in time accrued compared to $ lost/spent/earned.
This video on debt features an unreleased track by Haiku Charlie. HC is a band from Vancouver, BC. They write soft and peculiar songs about dreaming and living, telling stories and particular accounts of things that may have really happened. They do this through re-imagining histories and contemplating work, feminism, craft, introverts perspective, melodies from feelings, a pronounced sense of care and fragile-ness. This is not scab art. Much thanks to Haiku Charlie, and J. R. and of course, my roommates. haikucharlie.bandcamp.com
crochet/knitting project documenting the process. this is a ten hour project and this is a gift. this is how I will wind down after working a graveyard shift. the process becomes the significant part. Once I give it away, how will I remember i ever made it. This is a glorifying work that usually isn't showcased. This is not scab art because I am making it to make myself feel better as a type of self care, and I am part of the working class. This is not a way to tolerate my involvement in wages for the sake of capitalism, but the self care needed to be brave and critical of this relationship for myself. . music by Karl Blau, the song is called "before telling dragons" and it's a really beautiful story. I enjoy the keys and the repetition. find it here https://klaps.bandcamp.com/album/natu...
This video is about work, unpaid labour for pleasure. It's about finding a way to congratulate myself on my accomplishments, because this type of crafting doesn't have a finished piece when you give it away. I forget as soon as it's gone. Maybe now I will feel like I am doing something. This is about honouring the art of undoing, and acknowledging that undoing or dismantling take a long time and require patience and method. This is about the time it takes to go backwards, and undo mistakes, in order to redo. LOST TIME/INFINITY/NO WAGE/ COPING/ NO RESULT It's ok. tearing it apart is just, if not more enjoyable than making it. This is a wave stitch pattern baby blanket. The colours became too experimental and I had to make a decision. This will be given away, and I will soon forget about it. unraveling yarn
how does this relate to class struggle? minimal communism, art scab, what does this blanket do for any insurrections? more than I can know. I am not an art scab, I am an art scab. Is this art, yes. because I say so. yes i am active within the class struggle. No, I am not knitting for profit for the gain of the bourgeois Music by Pedagogues and the song is called "insurrectionist love song". you can find it here https://pedagogues.bandcamp.com
these socks will take 25 hours. they are a birthday gift for my sister. I have been working on these for 3 months. they can be difficult. doubled sock yarn. sleep knitting, cold hands, stay warm, this is something I am working on. Self gratification because when you give it away you forget. west coast/ documentation/music video/hand picked/self portrait /video art/
do something. material feminism. Nobody cares about this type of work, labour. this is a type of labour (unwaged) for pleasure. not for sale socks. you have to believe in it. minimal communism.
