I'm a PhD student in marine biology but my interest in wildlife extends much beyond just the marine. I'm having a lot of fun figuring out how to portray different species in my art.

Pride bird edition 2: a trans chickadee! Referenced from a black capped chickadee, but could also be a Carolina chickadee!
After a long month of dealing with life, I’m back! I’m trying to do something of a subtle pride bird collection.
First up is the rainbow flag, represented by a common grackle! I wanted to take advantage of their gorgeous iridescence!

A gorgeous (somewhat emo colored) moth. I don’t use red often enough in my art! I had a blast messing around with the different shades.

I absolutely love warm neutrals so the colors on this were very fun. It’s another new species to me, but it reminds me a lot of the moths we get in the summer where I live!

The Moth May prompts are all UK moths, but this one is very similar to a familiar moth here in the US - the beloved Garden Tiger Moth.

I had never heard of these moths before I looked them up to draw them. I had such a fun time trying to capture the way the light reflects off its scales!

I adored learning about these guys in school - they’re a really cool example of natural selection that has happened in the last 100 years!

@parad0xcat wanted to see a corvid, so here’s a black-billed magpie! These birds remind me of my childhood - I would see them hopping all over the place. They’re very endearing
