Shale updated sprite sheet #wip
"Shale - Concept Art" 10 July 2025
---
Concept art of Shale, from my visual novel By Your Love.
Did things a little out of order, so there are design details I had to "lock-in" after the CG illustration of Shale's intro I posted previously. It's also the less dynamic post of the 2 that I drew; hopefully I'll be able to revisit the other pose eventually. For the other characters in the project I'll be going from iteration to concept art.
Progress shots aren't ready yet, but can be found on my Cara profile when they're ready.
"Hello, Shale" - from By Your Love (visual novel)
---
Forgot to upload this here!
This is a CG from my visual novel, By Your Love, which I originally made during January's Sealed With a Kiss Jam.
This is Shale, the main love interest, and is the more fully-realized version of a D&D character I played from an abandoned campaign. Progress shots can be found on my Cara.
Lucid again, but with his hair inked in.
As I mentioned in my IG, this was a step I originally tend to skip (and in the past I wouldn’t have done the lineart with this kind of brush or even with hatching). I am in the painting stage now, but having the hair essentially blocked in makes it a little easier to track the lighting. It was a lot of work inking it in but it’s worth it even if it means painting over top of it.
Time for a read…

Artist notes: I wanted to work on my hatching and crosshatching here. I’d been stuck on colour for so long I needed a refresher. I also wanted to showcase a scene and tell a bit of a story in the process.
If you follow my IG and Facebook page you’ll recognize this piece.
I actually forgot to put it up! I should do more pencil-based or pencil-inspired stuff in the future.
Lucid Andross, my boyfriend’s player character

A side-by-side comparison of Faust after several iterations (left) and Faust on the night I conceived her design (right). It was my first ever session of D&D ever. I was invited to play by a longtime friend to a long-running campaign run by one of our friends from high school. As I knew the whole group, the most nerve-wracking part was learning how to play. The party was fairly high levelled at this point, with a story in progress, and my character being nothing more than a character sheet filled with the help of our DM. The sketch helped me better visualize her and work out a personality that I thought would be interesting to explore. The session was a blast, and while I could't stay the whole night I was able to leave a lasting impression.
In the time since I ended up making some changes that ended up playing into some familiar tropes for tiefling rogues, but after some brainstorming with my boyfriend (said longtime friend who first invited me to the table), I'm hoping for a chance to return to some of those original ideas in-game. End of the world plot reasons notwithstanding, of course.
