Opal Eloise Rose || 26 || genderfluid || they/them pronouns || cupcake decorator and frequent user of sarcasm.
Slow to love, quick to use their wit. A connoisseur of comics and literature. Protector to their mother and sister, and their close friends. A lover, a fighter, an artist, all hidden behind an impenetrable veneer of calm. The "strong, silent type", people would call them. A single pringle and happy that way, or at least that's what they tell everybody. As far as love's concerned, Opal believes they're fine with their job at Gigi's Cupcakes and a two bedroom apartment with their sister Marley and pet cat, Batman.
"I 'hide behind sarcasm', as you put it, because telling you to go fuck yourself is considered rude and unprofessional in most social situations." -- Opal Rose

Hectic, that was the only way to describe Hope’s day. First, she had been kept awake by someone’s dog howling all night and so she had slept through her alarm, then some idiot decided to drive right through a puddle and soak her from head to toe. Pulling uncomfortably at her wet clothes, in an attempt to get the disgusting feeling away from her skin, Hope tapped her foot impatiently against the floor. She had already been running late to work and seeing as she would change there anyway, Hope had reasoned that there was no need to go back home and discard of her wet clothes - Still, this thought did nothing to soothe her nerves.Â
Finally, the subway arrived and Hope hopped into the nearest car. The chatter of the other travellers eventually caused Hope’s tension to unwind as her body realised she was on her way, she was not going to have to give up her spot to one of the others girl’s. Not that any of them would feel comfortable doing that to Hope, all that worked at Sal’s were like family. Well, except Stella. Hope’s free hand, which was not clutched around a pole to keep her standing, balled into a fist as she imagined the other girl’s smug little face as Hope ran in, clothes wet and dark circles beneath her ey-
Her thoughts were cut off with the sudden jolt of the subway, causing another body to knock into Hope’s - Unbeknownst to both of them, this contact caused Hope’s wallet to slip from her pocket and fall to the floor. Hearing no apology come from the anonymous individual who had knocked into her, Hope looked away from them, not in the mood to deal with their rudeness.
“Shit!” Opal yelped in alarm as their phone was knocked from their hand, immediately diving after it to keep the little device from being trampled underfoot. Opal’s phone was their lifeline- for one thing, it had been a gift from their mother, and for another thing it had all of their music and contacts, most important of them obviously being Marley and Millie Rose. God, their mother.. Opal had promised to call her tonight, they had to save their phone. The young person got on their hands and knees in an attempt to grab the elusive mobile device, irritating many of their fellow passengers as they glared down at Opal and demanded to know what they were doing on the subway car floor. Opal paid them no mind, crawling forward until at last, they spotted the familiar black phone case with its flame decal and reached forward to grab it just before an incoming pair of feet crushed it.
“Ooh thank lord,” Opal sighed to themself as they quickly scrambled up off of the floor, inspecting the device for cracks and thankfully finding none. They wiped a few smudges of dirt off of it before turning back to the person they’d bumped into. She was a blonde girl not much taller than themself, and Opal bit their lip when they saw she’d already turned away, possibly on purpose. Come to think of it, they probably should have apologized to her first and dove for their phone second. Either way, the poor girl was already soaking wet for some reason and probably having a bad day already without Opal’s help, so the least they could do was apologize later rather than never. “Listen, I’m so sorry about that, it was an accident,” they said to the girl, their voice raised to make sure they were heard as they put a hand on the girl’s shoulder and relinquished it just as quickly. “Are you okay?”
"For the last time, Marls, no way!" Opal exclaimed with a smile as they shook their head, adjusting the ear bud in their ear and holding the phone closer to their lips when the din of the subway station threatened to drown out their voice, "There is no way in heaven or hell that I'm going to sit through an entire night of third-wheeling you and Jake. I know you're dying for me to get to know him better, but if Unique's out, so'm I."Â
The brunette looked up as the subway arrived and they stepped up to join a car, standing near the doors when the doors opened. "Listen, I'll be home in half an hour, okay? Have fun getting ready for your date," Opal said as they hung up the phone. They were about to put it back in their pocket and unplug their headphones when the subway jerked unexpectedly, knocking the young adult back against the person behind them.Â
