I’m writing this because I was caught with this question from an article written by Toni Leviste, entitled Discover and Follow Your Passion: Leap of Faith. And the question is “How Could You Make the World Better for Yourself and Others?”
How could I? I’ve asked this question myself countless of times.
So before telling you what I think, I’ll first tell you that I used to be a troubled child. Truthfully, everyone alive knows this best, that we all encounter problems at some point in our lives, where we are thrown to the real world with big roads and big guys, and not to mention the gigantic obstacles we have to face. If you went back to my old posts, you’ll see that I suffered from depression, I was, at some point, doing myself harm and used to be suicidal. That was all before I found God. At a young age, since I was a child, I only knew that there is a God but I did not understand what it truly means to believe and have faith. So, long story short, at my darkest, lowest point of my life, He called me. And ever since then, I’ve discovered how much He loves me and how peaceful I became ever since I’ve acknowledge Him. It was a long road, a long dark tunnel before I came to light. There would be days where I had to fight my demons to do hold on to God. It was a long battle, with my environment, with my problems, with myself.
Now that I’m okay, now that I feel stronger, I want to do something. My dream as a child was always to help others and give something good back to this world. Whether I’d dreamed of being a Doctor, or an Environmentalist, or an Artist. I would plan out how I could make others feel happy, and how I could touch lives. All I know is that, in whatever I do, I must give my best, I must choose something I love to do and something that affects others in a positive way. I strive to inspire others with my craft. I want to share experiences like this to help others as well. I strive to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good citizen. I do not strive to be perfect but I strive to be human. As much as possible, I want to do what’s right and what’s good.
I believe that when you are good to yourself, you will be good to others. Just like the saying that goes “to love others, you must first love yourself”. I have to follow my passion and my dreams, whatever my heart is telling me, and although I have to consider reality and practicality in my future career, I know that I’ll find the perfect job that includes my craft and passion. I know that it would be hard, and obstacles would be ever present but if you really believe in your dream, and if you really follow your passion, your hard work would bear fruits. So no matter, whether my salary would be great or not, or how tiring it may be... I’ll do it and I’ll keep on moving forward, all for making the world better, for myself, and for others. If I really want to make the world better, I should always start with myself and how I affect others. Always uplifting and never degrading, always inspiring and never bashing. That’s how I believe I could make the world better.
