Somewhat triumphant return
I’ve thought about taking up blogging again for quite some time now. I’m back at university and feel I need to process some of my new (and not so new) impressions by putting them in writing and remembered I still have this old thing.
Being back at uni also means I’m pretty busy, I’ve almost finished my first year. The program’s called Sloyd, handcraft and design (‘sloyd’ being the English spelling of the Swedish ‘slöjd’, internationally used to denote typical Swedish handcraft. ‘Slöjd’ can mean a lot of different things though, we’ve had entire seminars about it.) We study a lot of different handcraft techniques (I stay away from woodwork as much as possible, it simply isn’t my medium) and develop our own pieces as well as read and discuss a lot of theory about handcraft, design, art and traditions.
I was worried at first that it might be a bit too traditional for me (I had thought about moving towards the more industrial side of textile manufacturing) but we’re given a lot of freedom to explore our own artistic expression. I’ll get back to what we’re doing in a more detailed manner later, but safe to say that it’s a lot of fun. (Especially now we’ve started weaving.)
So here’s the plan. I’ll keep (or rather start, it’s been a while) reblogging stuff, but also post updates on the work I do, with a bit of pictures and a bit of writing. Some of you might be familiar with my other tumblr blog Artwork etc. where I mainly posted pictures of stuff I’ve done, but I thought it might be interesting to be a bit more detailed and talk about the ins and outs of it as well. My hair has undergone some changes lately (it’s green) so I’ll probably post something about that too. We’ll see what happens.
So, yeah. That’s it for now, hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
/ Micka
You might have noticed (or rather, not noticed as there hasn’t been much to notice) that it’s been awful quiet here for a while. I’ve decided to retire Artwork etc. and move to my other Tumblr blog, Uncool Swede. I’ll keep this as a sort of archive for my own sake, but if you want to keep up with my new stuff I suggest you go follow that (and there will be new stuff, I do a lot of things in school and I spent the weekend editing a bunch of illustrations). Take care.
