Dany: The last King in the North was Torrhen Stark.

So the responses I’ve seen to this have been pretty interesting and they mainly consist of two things:

1) Dany is referencing Torrhen Stark because he was the last KITN to be loyal to the Targaryens. 

or 2) That she just isn’t very knowledgeable when it comes to modern Westerosi history.

But that’s kind of the point isn’t it. 

If it’s scenario (1), then it implies that she KNEW that Robb was declared King (by the Northerners, his people, just like she was declared queen by hers) and still chose to deliberately ignore and dishonor his title by glossing over it to fit her narrative of loyal Notherners.

If it’s senario (2), then it means that she’s got one hell of a history lesson she needs to catch up on on the country she hasn’t been to in twenty years.

In both instances though, with just a single line, it shows how out of touch she is with both the social and political climate of the place she means to take over. And, even with her good intentions, it should make us feel concerned about how good of leader she’d REALLY make if she were to win.

I have a 3rd theory: the writers of this season didn’t watch any of the previous seasons. Sansa forgets that she herself lied about how Lysa died, Bran thinks Petyr lied about owning the dagger, when in reality he lied about who’d won it, Tyrion calls his marriage to Sansa a “sham” despite the fact that both parties consented AND the high septon officiated it.

I admire attempts to analyze lines carefully but this show doesn’t deserve it. Dany might be making a statement about legitimacy coming from her bloodline and dismissing Robb’s kingship over it, or she might not know much Westerosi history (this seems the most accurate to ME, she doesn’t even know who “Dornish” Daenerys is, a woman from her own house),

But I’m pretty sure that whoever thoughtlessly wrote that scene had just, forgotten about Robb. He wasn’t here to show his butt anymore so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
