The hill is a landmark of south Trinidad and the city of San Fernando, the Amerindians called it Anaparima which means single hill, some understand it to mean place without water. It said that theAmerindians used the hill as a place of ⛪worship with members of the Warrahoon tribe(Guarauno or warao)travelling in canoes🛶 from theOrinoco delta in south America They belive rhe hill is home their supreme spirit and ancestor, inventor of the canoe and his mother their divine ancestress. Even as far back as1920s the Guarahoons used to travelled from South America to worship on San Fernando hill The hill, anoutcrop of Argillite is the highest point in the Naparima Plains, original a dome-shaped with a flattened top, the size was reduced by more than a third as a result of unrestricted quarrying in the 1970s, the hill originally supported semi-evergreen foerest, but it was replaced by cultivatedspecies prior to the devestation of the Hill by quarrying. Today the hill stands at 600ft on it stands a visito center and recreational area, the view nake San Fernando major tourist attraction an is popular destination for weddingphotos.
