A sink too full. Two towels. A dish rack leaning slightly to one side beneath the weight of bowls neatly arranged by size, though nobody asked for order. Nobody needed to. Water flowing warm over every porcelain. Its pour steady enough to fill the silence without breaking it. Soap suds gathered at the base of narrow wrists, slipping in pale lines toward the elbow before disappearing underneath a pushed sleeve. One plate passed. Then another. Each accepted without looking. Dried. Stacked. Returned to exactly where it belonged. It all arrived too easily, a rhythm instilled and just familiar in every beat. Wash. Pass. Dry. A choreography built somewhere quieter than memory, old enough to survive resentment (anger and shame), recognized enough to make distance feel briefly artificial.

Almost domestic.

Well, almost.

Knife's blade remained near the cutting board, handle angled away. Leftover scallions scattered beside it in uneven pieces, some too thick, some barely cut at all. Steel moved beneath small dainty fingers, grip rising higher than it should, thumb pressing where the blade narrowed toward the handle. A breach of safety protocol. Irritation surfaced before thought could stop it. Old. Instinctive. Not anger. Something that's worse... Softer. One that's tucked beneath shared history now being dragged quietly back into the present, concern still wore the same face it always had.

Asa's hand paused before the blade came down again, still holding it at the base. How many times was he going to repeat himself tonight? She'd heard that exact sentence enough times for it to strike a nerve. For the briefest moment, her fingers almost shifted on their own. Almost as if she were debating setting the knife down completely just to keep the peace and move on without making a comment. Instead, she glanced down at the knife, then back toward the cutting board. The corner of her mouth twitched into something that looked more amused than anything else.

"I still have all ten fingers." Her free hand came up, wiggling her fingers to prove the point. She adjusted her grip anyway. And no, it wasn't because he'd asked. At least that's what she told herself. The knife resumed its steady rhythm against the board. Chop. Chop. Chop. It took only a few cuts before she realized she'd begun matching the pace she'd always used whenever they cooked together, unconsciously falling back into a routine she'd thought she'd left behind months ago. That realization sat heavier than she'd expected. She reached for another scallion, keeping her attention fixed on the vegetables instead of risking a glance in his direction.

"You know..." she began, her voice carrying the same easy warmth she offered almost everyone... except now there was an underlying edge of irritation. "You could've taken over the chopping if it was going to bug you this much." She tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear. "I could hear you breathing from all the way over there." The comment wasn't accusatory so much as matter-of-fact, a quiet indication that she'd noticed his irritation long before he'd said anything.

The quiet hum of Chloe's car echoed through the evening streets as she cruised toward Asa's place, one hand resting lazily on the steering wheel while "Anything But Love" by Tate McRae played softly through the speakers. The city lights reflected across the glossy black paint of the luxury car, but she'd long stopped noticing the attention it drew.

A rare evening with no schedules, cameras, or rehearsals was enough to put her in a good mood. Add a late-night drive, greasy drive-thru food, and Asa riding shotgun, and it sounded like the perfect way to end the day.

She pulled up outside the dorm with a grin, flashing the headlights twice before reaching over to unlock the passenger door.

"Your Uber's here," Chloe called through the open window, laughing to herself. "Hop in. I was promised good company, and I'm starving."

The rapper waited at the lobby of their dorms. Patiently waiting for her friend to swing by. During the waiting period, she decided to dig around Pinterest. Saving memes for a later time, organizing her albums, finding outfit inspos. The usual. Quite honestly, she had been so focused on her phone that she nearly forgot why she was waiting to be picked up. It wasn't until she saw the lights flashing outside that pulled her back to reality.

She tucked her phone away without another thought, her body already gravitating towards the vehicle outside.

"I'll give you a good rating" She smiles when sliding into the passenger's seat. "Ooh, good song!" Asa comments about the one that was currently playing. "May I?" She asks, though she's already leaning forward to crank the volume up just a bit higher.

pharita glanced down at herself almost instinctively when asa pointed out her top, fingers lightly pinching at the hem as if seeing it through someone else's eyes. "hm?" she looked back up before smiling. "oh— yeah. i bought it a little while ago, but this is the first time i've actually worn it." she gave the fabric another quick look before adding, "i couldn't decide if i liked it or not." truthfully, she'd stood in front of her closet debating between three different outfits before finally settling on this one. hearing asa notice it made her feel surprisingly reassured.

"you almost changed?" her brows lifted with playful disbelief. "then we would've both been standing in our rooms having the exact same crisis." she smiled, shaking her head. "i changed twice."

as asa mentioned food, pharita had already slipped into her own shoes. "i knew there was a reason i liked going out with you." there was an easy warmth to her voice as she straightened back up. "your priorities are exactly where they should be." when asa stepped aside and gestured for her to go first, pharita blinked once before a teasing smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "such a gentleman."

she dipped into a tiny, overly formal curtsy that lasted all of two seconds before dissolving into another quiet laugh. "thank you." stepping past asa, she waited just outside the dorm until they were side by side before starting toward the elevator. "so..." she glanced over with genuine curiosity. "what are you in the mood for today? are we being responsible and picking one place, or are we accidentally turning this into a food tour? you know what i would like to go afterward? one of those dog cafes."

"Thank you, thank you." She dipped into an equally exaggerated bow before following Pharita out into the hallway. "I've worked very hard to earn such a title." They slipped into the elevator, Asa pressing the button for the lobby as she watched the numbers descend. By the time the elevator reached the ground floor, the two had already fallen into the familiar rhythm that always seemed to come so naturally between them.

Not long after, they found themselves tucked into a cozy restaurant, the lunch rush beginning to settle around them. The warmth from the kitchen drifted through the room alongside the smell of grilled meat, fresh rice, and spices that made Asa realize just how hungry she'd actually been. The moment their drinks were set down, she reached for hers with both hands, taking a grateful sip before letting out a quiet, satisfied sigh.

"Ugh, so good" she tended to the meat. Flipping once one side was finished. "So, how are things? How are your parents doing?"

pharita took one last look at herself in the mirror before smoothing an invisible wrinkle from the front of her outfit. she wasn't usually the type to spend forever deciding what to wear, but she had changed twice after convincing herself the first choice felt too casual and the second one looked like she had tried too hard. eventually, she'd settled somewhere comfortably in the middle. with a satisfied little nod, she grabbed her phone and slipped it into her bag before making her way out of her room.

the dorm was quieter than usual, the soft sound of her slippers against the floor filling the silence until she stepped into the living room. spotting asa already there, her face brightened almost instantly. "oh, you're already ready." a small laugh escaped her as she walked over, eyes briefly flickering over asa's outfit with quiet admiration.

she adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder before offering a warm smile, the kind that came effortlessly whenever she was around someone she was comfortable with. "you look really cute, by the way." the compliment left her naturally. "should we head out?"

Every now and then she'd glance toward the hallway leading to the bedrooms, wondering how much longer Pharita would be. Not that she minded waiting. They'd already agreed over text that Asa would hang out in the living room while Pharita finished getting ready, and honestly, it gave Asa an excuse to do absolutely nothing before they left. The quiet footsteps eventually pulled her attention away from her screen. She looked up just as Pharita stepped into the living room, a grin spreading across her face almost immediately. "All set?" Asa slipped her phone into the pocket of her hoodie before pushing herself off the couch. Her eyes drifted over Pharita for a second, and she couldn't help the amused smile that tugged at her lips. "Wait..." She tilted her head slightly. "Is that a new top?"

Asa instinctively glanced down at her own outfit before letting out a bashful chuckle. "Really?" She scratched lightly at the back of her neck. "Thanks. I almost changed, too." At Pharita's question, Asa nodded without hesitation, already reaching for the pair of sneakers she'd left by the front door. "Definitely." She slipped them on before grabbing her small crossbody bag from the entryway. "The sooner we leave, the sooner we get to eat." She flashed Pharita a sheepish grin before opening the door for the two of them. "After you."

Days off were rare enough that Asa had learned not to waste them. The moment she'd realized her schedule was finally clear for an afternoon, she'd sent Maki a message asking if he wanted to meet up. An invitation to an arcade she'd spotted while passing through the area a few days earlier. It felt like an easy choice. Arcades always reminded her of home, and if there was anyone she could picture wandering around one for hours with, it was another Japanese idol who understood that little spark of nostalgia.

By the time she arrived, the place was already buzzing with noise. Bright claw machines lined one wall, rhythm games flashed colorful lights across the room, and somewhere in the back someone was celebrating a lucky win loud enough for half the arcade to hear. Asa slipped her hands into the pockets of her oversized hoodie as she waited near the entrance, taking everything in with an amused smile. The familiar voice reaching her ears made her glance up, and her smile immediately grew as she spotted Maki weaving through the crowd. Without thinking, she greeted him in Japanese, the language coming as naturally as breathing whenever the two of them were together.

"Did you find the place just fine?" She asked, suddenly worried if he got lost with her complicated directions.
