Started watching Batman Beyond and immediately stopped after Episode 3 in order to draw my new top favorite character design ever. The way Inque is animated is SO fun and expressive. It's amazing how much they can build her character in her animation alone with minimal dialogue. HAD to draw her.

I kinda wish some variation of Curaré existed in mainline canon.

Batman Beyond is in its own universe so it's not like it'd be totally beholden to canonicity. Her design is cool, and we kinda never really see what her life matures into after the Society of Assassins is forcibly disbanded, really. There's some Batman Beyond comic stuff but eeeh. A lot of Batman Beyond really feels like amazing concepts that DC proceeded to do absolutely nothing with.

Like my actual for real favourite Green Lantern concept, Kai-Ro. Big fan of a kid superhero who just does not conform to any common kid superhero conventions, although he is pretty much a classic Orientalist Tibetan stereotype. I can see a version of him that is humanized and given complexity beyond a western concept of a Buddhist monk boy aesthetic. It's been done! It can happen!

And actually while I'm complaining about stuff / pipedreaming,

always want more Inque. more inque.

It's just frustrating that these concepts are stuck in this one cartoon, which is imo the best piece of Batman media hands down and it's not close at all, and that as a result they're kinda stuck in amber. y'know?

Some very minor Batman Beyond redesigns!

Shriek: Tuning fork, little lines in his under suit. Playing with shapes on his armor

Inque: extra goop, making her hair seem a little oily

Spellbinder: it’d be cool if he Pale Man’d his eye when he hypnotized people, that’d be extra creepy!

Blight: just modernized the suit a bit, smaller eye sockets to up the scare factor

Dee Dee Twins: I think it’d be cool if each twin had a bit of their own personality in their designs, with a glove on one hand and their weapon of choice

Been rewatching Batman Beyond for the umpteenth time, and still marveling at all the character work! It’s probably in my top five shows, I really hope we get more BB animated content one day
