Do you know someone who suffers from autism? The disorder is less about the cause and more about the symptoms. Have you ever tried yoga for autism? Here is all you need to know about it
Yoga is a great activity you can do with all of your kids. I recommend investing in mats (can be found at 5 Below for $5). This will help your child recognize where their boundaries are. I have done yoga with children who have moderate to severe Autism, and I promise you, they can definitely benefit from it.
Yoga can:
-increase motor planning and gross motor skills
-decrease maladaptive behaviors
-increase coping chemicals
-increase self-awareness
Tips for implementing yoga:
- Let your child try it on their own for a couple weeks before you start prompting them through the motions. Instead, start by just modeling the poses.
- Keep realistic goals. Maybe their first goal is just to stay on their mat, or to stay quiet during the session.
-Play intro music to cue the session
-Keep lights low/dimmed
-Stay silent. This helps keep the calm atmosphere and sets an example for the child.
