I actually really like the thing when you're starting to get the hang of a new language, enough to understand and say simple sentences but you gotta get creative to get more complex thoughts across, like a puzzle. I remember a time in the restortation school when a classmate who wasn't natively finnish and did her best anyway dropped something and sighed, telling me "every day is monday this week. I have had four mondays this week." And I understood.

I don't think I speak much of spanish anymore, but in the nursing school training period I did there, I did manage to get by with making weird Tarzan sentences. I got a nosebleed at some point and startled another nurse. Not knowing the words "humidity" or "stress", I managed to string together: "This is ok. It is hot, it is cold, I have a bad day, I am sad, I have blood. This is normal for me." And she understood.

And sometimes you just say things weird, but it's better than not saying it. One time, I was stuck in a narrow hallway behind someone walking really slowly with a walker, and he apologised for being in the way. I was not in any hurry, but didn't know the spanish word for "hurry", but I did know enough words to try to circumvent it by borrowing the english "I have all the time in the world."

The man burst into one of those cackling old man laughters that they do when something in this world still manages to surprise them. He had to be somewhere between 70 and a 100 years old, and I guess if there was one thing he wasn't expecting to hear today, it would be a random blond vaguely baltic-looking fuck casually announce that he is the sole owner and keeper of the very concept of time.

I’ve mostly learned Chinese in school, so I know a lot of academic vocabulary while having the language skills of a toddler in some basic areas. Once, I forgot the word for sad, which is a really dumb thing to forget. A bunch of the ways to say sad in Chinese are literally just “not happy”, but I also momentarily forgot how to say happy. So instead I said “there is an economic downturn inside my brain”.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head. Her logic is so baffling and grandly-scaled that it’d fit in perfectly with OG Godzilla media

Emma thinks she’s living in a godzilla vs hedorah/1992 mothra crossover, but in reality she’s living in ghidorah the three headed monster.

Everyone else is living in destroy all monsters and hating every moment of it.

The thing is—the thing is, “unleash a monster to fight a worse monster” is a fantastic strategy in Godzilla movies—Showa, Heisei, or otherwise—where there is, in fact, a worse monster around to fight. It’s a totally acceptable act of desperation when the only thing that stands a chance of stopping these monsters is more monsters. Because the monster you unleash WILL fucking slaughter the worse monster.

But there aren’t any “worse monsters” at the outset of KOTM that need fighting! Emma has defined what the “worse monster” is, and she has said it’s humans. And, as promised, the monsters she unleashes will fucking slaughter this monster.

That ain’t Heisei or Showa logic, here. That’s just genocide. The movie is “Humans caused global warming, therefore we need monsters to kill off the humans.” That level of misanthropy is unprecedented in prior Godzilla movies even when the monster of the movie is caused by human actions.

If it had been “humans caused global warming, global warming thawed and unleashed Ghidorah, therefore we need monsters to kill Ghidorah,” THAT would fit prior models. That’s still “humans are now suffering the consequences of their actions and we need friendly monsters to help us.” She coulda been a proper antihero if Ghidorah had been unleashed like that and in desperation she tried to unleash a bunch more titans to stop him and then it all went to hell. Buuut that’s not what they did. They just made her deliberately orchestrate a genocide.

Spoilers: The deleted alternate ending of Godzilla vs Biollante has the titular plant/human/goji chimera sacrificing the last of her strength to save the King of Monsters from certain death due to a bioweapon used against him. The reason for this sudden change in behavior is the human side (Erica) taking pity on her fellow monster, being both blood relatives with the same plight. The Heisei series always carried a tragic tone when discussing its monsters, Godzilla in particular. This scene and a few other finished scenes were cut out for runtime,(and cell shading felt off), despite how much the director and the team wished to include them. But be glad they released the footage for us all to see.

(Biollante needs love, her movie is one of the best-rated Godzilla films of all time)
