Is overpopulation a myth? First, I want you to stop saying “overpopulation” when you mean “Malthusianism”. We are done doing that.
Now, before you defend “the family” in the name of socialism, ignoring the principles and interests of men as if they are not patriarchy, I want you to ask yourself what you think women have experienced throughout the history of civilization:
How many women have only become pregnant intentionally? How many women are in full, complete and uncoerced control of when they become pregnant, and how many times they become pregnant, and with whom they become pregnant?
How many women do not feel they must be discrete about their birth control methods? How many women have birth control available to them? How many women have a variety of birth control methods available to them?
How many women are allowed to refuse intercourse in the absence of appropriate birth control methods? How many women are allowed to refuse intercourse at any time, for any reason? How many women can completely avoid intercourse throughout their lives?
How many women are given thorough education on pregnancy? How many women are fully aware of every gruesome detail, everything that can go wrong? How many women approach pregnancy with caution and are not coerced to ignore those feelings?
How many women feel no pressure to reproduce from partners, husbands, families, cultures, religions, philosophies or unfortunate historical circumstances? How many significant social institutions have no commentary and make no implications about women and reproduction?
How many girls grow up believing child bearing and rearing are inevitable, an inescapable fate over which they will have little to no control? How many girls become women who believe that they exist to procreate?
How many women feel they can completely refuse to bear children without controversy?
How much of the world’s population came to be through women who were treated and used as mere vessels? How much of the world’s population came to be through unwilling, unwitting, or uncertain women? How many generations of women have dreamed of more, how many wished things could have happened differently? How many generations of your own family do you think have had a choice? How many generations of women do you think it’s acceptable to sacrifice?
You did not get 8 billion people through women’s pure, unadulterated enthusiasm for reproducing. It has never worked that way. It will never work that way.
