There were few things in the world that made Katsuya seriously rush. The blond firmly believed in doing things on his own time and taking things at his own pace. It was for this reason that he generally found himself with only semi-decent marks on his projects and homework. He was late getting out of bed in the mornings. He usually didn’t make it to gatherings at the Kame Game on time with Yugi and the others.
Things that made him rush were far and few. But his stomach was one of them. When Jou’s stomach started up, nothing stopped him from hurtling full force to the nearest restaurant, kitchen, or cafeteria. To his credit, his friends found this trait in him vastly amusing.
But if there was one thing that made him seriously rush, it was the idea that someone he loved was in trouble.
He wasn’t arrogant enough to assume, in instances like these, that his assistance was needed, that he was the only one that could possibly help get said friend or loved one out of such a mess. But if Katsuya wasn’t there to support, just in case, then what kind of a friend was he? Pretty lousy and useless, of course! Or, well, something to that effect. And he most certainly was not. At least not when it came to things that were important to him.
So when Anzu had sent him the vague text about Yugi at the top of the Kaiba Corp building, Jounouchi found himself toppling out of his seat rather quickly, clambering about as he stuffed his books that he’d been (not really) studying from hastily into his bag. The teacher supervising detention looked up with alert at the boy’s sudden movements, but Katsuya couldn’t be fussed with an explanation as the balded man started protesting. “Sorry, teach— family emergency. You can suspend me if it makes ya feel better!” He exclaimed as he hastily made for the door. Detention— who cared about detention when your best friend could potentially have his soul trapped in the Shadow Realm for all eternity?!
Kaiba Corp wasn’t terribly far from the school. But far enough that Jounouchi had hurtled out unnecessarily in front of a taxi and nearly gotten himself killed. As he pooled into the passenger’s side and gave the destination in an anxious rush, he briefly wondered if he was as dramatic as his father often claimed he was. Eh— that was something he could think about later, though! Yugi, now. As they pulled up to the massive building that was enough to make Katsuya both angry that it belonged to such a smug rich bastard as Kaiba and envious— because really, how cool would it be to own a skyscraper like that?!— the blond dove a hand into his school pants, withdrawing what would hopefully be enough to satisfy the driver. In the next moment, he was tearing away from the taxi, stumbling on the curb as he made his way to the door.
No one was at the front desk— which was rather ominous in itself. And though Katsuya hadn’t really been inside Kaiba’s main corporate building before, elevators were typically easy enough to find. As he shuffled down the empty hallways, he pulled out his cell phone to message Anzu and confirm that they were all, in fact, at the top of the building he was storming through now.
What he didn’t account for was the figure that was striding toward him from the opposite direction as he passed the elevator on his right, so concerned with his thumb flying over the phone’s keypad as he was to even notice he’d missed it.
