Julian was holding onto Ally’s hand as they walked through the crowds of people at the fair; it was easy to get lost here, and Andy would kill him if he lost his niece. “Okay, we’ll do the Ferris Wheel first, then bumper cars, and whatever else you want to do– we can get popcorn or something, too, deal?” Julian asked Ally, giving her a fond grin as they approached the Ferris Wheel. He started to move towards the line, but crashed into another person, and felt them step on his foot, making him wince in pain. This was one of the many reasons why he hated these kinds of things– Ally was lucky he loved her. “–It’s fine,” he gritted out, not yet meeting the eyes of the person who’d stepped on him. “It happens.” He frowned and glanced over at the young woman, flashing her a quick smile. “Really, it’s fine. Right, Al?”

Feeling tense over stepping on the man, a guilty expression crossed Ash’s face until she saw him give her a smile. She let out a sigh of relief and returned his smile. Ally looked up at her uncle before looking at the young woman and nodding with a big smile. “I don’t think he needs a doctor.” The little girl mentioned before examining her uncle and shaking her head. Ash let out a small laugh and nodded. “Well that’s good. I may be a nurse but I’m no doctor and I wouldn’t wanna ruin your evening with your dad.” Ash replied with a smile which quickly turned into a blush when she heard Ally laugh. Looking between the two, the smiled sheepishly. “I’m sorry.. What’s so funny..?”

“Bowling? You just want to beat my butt hard tonight, don’t you? Can’t pick something I have a chance at winning.” Shane let out a dramatic sigh. “Okay, I guess I can handle one day of failure for you.” He stuck his tongue out and hopped up. “Hey, I can’t help that girls flirt with me and it’s rude to just ignore them,” he said with a smirk. “Come on, let’s go.”

Hearing her brother’s dramatic sigh and his next comment, Ash stuck out her tongue back at him and let out a laugh. “You’re such a philanthropist, brother. Flirting with girls who are just throwing themselves at you, losing, oh so, gracefully.. You should be made a martyr. Truly.” Ash jumped up and shoved him playfully with a smirk. Putting on a pair of boots, she grabbed her purse and phone and skipped to the door. “Okay, ready!”

With the strong possibility of being around drunk people, Ash wasn’t sure why she went to the 4th July festival every year; and yet she did. She usually walked around with a bottle of water, watched the lights and the family who had kids that were laughing and running around then she watched the fireworks and go home. Hearing her name, she looked up at the Ferris Wheel and waved at one of the kids in her neighbourhood. Stepping back, she wasn’t watching where she was going and stepped on someone’s foot. She let out a gasp and immediately turned around to face them. “Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!”

Shane crinkled his nose. “I already called everyone else, seems like they’re all busy, so you’re my last resort,” he teased. “What should we do? Actually, we can do whatever you want, I’m all yours for the night.” He missed spending time with her, but with his crazy work schedule and her being an adult now, he tried to give her space. Not act like a father type as much anymore, and just be whatever she needed him to be. Though he sometimes fought with figuring out just how much space she needed from him. 

Scrunching up her nose, Ashleigh looked at her brother and shook her head teasingly. “If so many people blew you off that I’m your last hope then that says more about you than it does me, brother.” She let out a giggle as she thought about how they should spend their day. “I don’t feel like a movie but.. we could go bowling?” She asked with a hopeful smile. “We haven’t done that in so long!” She exclaimed before pausing for a moment. “Just.. try not to flirt with every hot girl that we see? It’s weird.”

For once in what seemed like an eternity, Shane had Friday night off from work. He worked almost every single weekend, but his boss had been nice to him for some odd reason, which he wasn’t about to question. After running some errands, he opened the door to his apartment and saw his sister. The apartment wasn’t much, but it was enough for the two of them, and in the end, that was all that really mattered. “Since I have the night off, we’re going to make the best of it. Let’s have a date night. Dinner and a movie, my treat and I’ll let you make all of the decisions,” he proposed as he plopped down on the couch. “What do you say?”

Flicking through the channels, Ash was on the couch when she heard the lock of the door. “Shane? What are you doing home?” She questioned but hearing her brother’s suggestion, Ash gasped as she turned her attention from the tv to her brother. “What?!” She exclaimed with a shocked expression on her face. “You mean you actually have a night off? And a Friday, no less? What will they do without you?” She teased before letting out a chuckle. Sitting back, she crossed her legs and gave a smile, nodding. “That sounds great. It feels like ages since we’ve done anything together. But only if you’re sure. I’m almost certain there are more interesting people you’d rather spend your night off with than with your baby sister.”
