This dude Dave Schilling wrote this thing over at Vice that's "in defense of the Basic Bitch" with the organizing principle that Britney ditched the last vestiges of her past Basic-ness when she made out with Madonna at the VMAs that time, which, okay, buuuuuut isn't a faux-lesbian makeout for attention and shock value kind of the most Basic move there is?

@sunitamani is in this video and it is rad. She's great and funny and looks hot in it which is enough for me and for you, but even if it weren't, the video itself is perfect. It's an awesome high-concept video the likes of which i haven't seen since the 90s, the golden age of the music video. (For the young or ignorant, see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here)
Sunita acts, dances, and does comedy and you can find more of her stuff here.

Last night as I was drifting off to sleep, I thought about how nice it would be if men in every community tried to keep their neighborhood safe for women, children and themselves by walking around and making sure everything was cool. Earlier in the day I’d learned that a casual friend had been assaulted in our neighborhood, right near a school. I imagined the men of the world’s neighborhoods patrolling the area in shifts throughout the day and maybe pairing up after dark. By just walking around and being alert they could keep streets safe and protect friends and loved ones from harm. Since it’s their home, and they’d know the streets, they’d be more aware of sketchy areas or potentially dangerous residents. Then I thought that if people wanted to, they could sign up for this as their job, and get paid by the city. Then realized I had invented the police.
The only intimate loungewear more 90s than these colored silk pajamas were the Second Skin Satin Collection of bras and panties from Victoria's Secret. I wanted to find pictures of them to post here but I looked and I couldn't find any so I gave up, but every freshman year fantasy I had began with a boy from school catching sight of me in my Second Skin Satin bra. Ice blue.
“But maybe that’s the way it should be. Maybe working on the little things as dutifully and honestly as we can is how we stay sane when the world is falling apart.” ― Haruki Murakami, “Samsa in Love”
@mariskreizman's beautiful "Slaughterhouse 90210". I wish I had thought of it myself, but even more than that I want everyone to see it.
Don’t get all shiny and hard and special. Let yourself be odd and awkward, and hurt. You’ll be stronger and happier if you let yourself feel genuinely upset by this right now. Crumple on down into the carpet, and sob for a while. You need to remember this, and acknowledge that it upsets you, that you don’t want to do this to yourself again. If you deny that this hurts, though, you will do it again and again and again.
