“That is why your girlfriend left you.”
As if the world stops for a moment, the resounding sound of a fist colliding with the wall echoes through the hallway. It is fast and precise, enough to destroy the villain’s skull. The villain side eyes the fist 3 inches close to his face, and gazes at the hero with nothing on his eyes. His mirth disappears to nowhere as the silence continues.
“Did I actually hit a nerve?” the villain asks, putting on an arrogant facade. But his fist clenches with his lips, his heart thrumming in his ears like an indiscernible echo of the wind. “She must—”
“Stop,” the hero speaks up, his previously pale lips turning red to how hard he is biting it. “Swallow everything that you want to say, I don’t want to hear it. Hell, don’t even breathe.”
The villain obeys. He watches the hero heave deep breaths as he calms himself. Exhaustion clings to his new wrinkles, and his blazing gaze becomes tame and lifeless. God, what did that girl do to his hero? He slightly raises his hand, fingers vaguely touching the hero’s shirt, but he puts it down once the hero shifts his weight. The hero stays in his place for a while, unmoving.
The villain blinks, feeling a crippling sensation in his throat. He shuffles in his position, looking down. This is the first time he sees the hero up close, and not only that, the hero is looking at him. Probably scrutinizing his every move like he— and he wasn't. The villain raises his head, a grin playing on his lips; and drops when he realizes it. The hero isn't with him.
His eyes are on the villain, but he is living in his fantasies. A fantasy where the person he loves is within his grasp, safe and protected. The reality where her eyes are only on him. The villain now knows that it must be somewhere beautiful where he doesn’t exist. Bitter, he opens his mouth to find the right words.
“So?”
“So what?” the hero repeats, glancing at the villain. He looks hazy, a person forcefully woken up to the reality he despises.
The villain's demeanor hardens, and he crosses his arms. He massages his elbow, yet his grip only worsens whenever the hero spaces out. He must not let this affect him. He must not let this affect him. He must n...
“You must’ve loved her,” the villain says. He flicks the hero’s forehead, before laughing to himself. “Can’t you just let her go?”
“I do not understand what you mean.”
“She must’ve brought your brain with her, now that takes some skills.” it does take skills to capture the hero’s heart and break it into tiny pieces with a tiny oops as an apology. He crosses his arms, almost apologetic for the hero and himself. Because one, the girl beats him from winning the hero’s heart, and two, she sure is capable of eradicating it with an affair.
The hero scrunches his eyebrows with his mouth agape, processing the villain’s words appropriately. His eyes then dilate for a second before calming down. And there he is again, traveling deep down into his humble abode like a jellyfish seemingly immortal, yet defenseless. The villain simply stares at the hero, lost again. A lamb of his own mind, that is what he is. And the villain is starting to get enough of it. He bites his inner cheeks, eventually having the drive to kick the hero out of his conjured reality.
“For fuck’s sake, can’t you stop?”
“...stop?” the hero returns to the world again, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, stop.” the villain combs his hair, pushing the hero off him. “She had an affair so just stop looking for her—”
“It was a mistake.” The hero cuts off the villain. “She didn’t do anything wrong. I left her waiting for so long, it is given that she’ll like someone else—”
“She promised you that she won’t do that— no, stop cutting me— just fucking—”
“Never insult her, villain.” the hero says through gritted teeth, holding the villain down. His hands severely prevent the villain from constantly flying his arms everywhere. “Do not say a word that’ll dirty her name, keep it in.”
“She is a bitch—”
A punch. The hero punches the villain in the face, delivering the blow enough for the villain to drop to the ground. It is weird, it should’ve hurt, that is what the villain must feel. But it is numb. Instead, his heart is the one killing him, clenching in the place of his bruising cheeks. The hero lets out a heavy sigh, shaking his also bloody fist. He brings his fingers to his lips, smearing the blood off as he lets his body grow limp against the wall.
“What a joke…” the villain smiles, it is plain and holds nothing. His eyes gaze at the hero’s face, he is crying. For the first, the hero cries in front of him. He can’t help but let out a silent scoff. “You are so… blinded by her.”
Silence engulfs them. The hero wipes his fallen tears, setting his foot away. “Goodbye.”
The villain merely raises a finger, acting like he is shooing the hero away. He sits quietly in the middle of the hallway, maybe he is now the one lost in thought. Everything happened way too fast that he couldn’t help but say something. Some crap that will force the hero to stay, at least.
“Can’t you at least look at me?” the hero stops, standing still in the distance. “You know I’ll do anything for you.”
The hero stands there, so distant from the villain. So close yet so far, like a star in the night sky. When he was a kid, the villain always wanted to fish the stars and give them the utmost care they deserved. He did see a star, shining so brightly, and he ought to catch it; yet he gave it away so easily. And now it is free again, the star is now walking away from him, again. The villain sighs, hitting the wall with his head a few times before hitting it harshly. And tears fell. Maybe he isn’t meant for them at all.
