Final Project - Zuko
I think this was pretty sucessful over all. I wish that I had made the shaping shadows and highlights more vivid (shocker!) If I wanted a more natural look for the eye shape, I would have used a dark brown instead of black. I think My blocked eyebrows were very successful. In the pictures I can't even tell that there was anything done to his right eyebrow! I wish I would have taken more pictures in natural light and I wish I could have done more with his hair other than spray it black and try to style it. I think he would have to come with his hair wet for me to be able to really style it.
Final Project Practice
I fully applied the makeup first on Andrew, then on Kyle for practice. On Andrew I did a more graphic, chard burn with thin face makeup and weathered skin. My Concept changed by the time I got to Kyle, I decided to do softer, prettier makeup with a non-chard burn. My inspiration came directly from one of my research pictures. For Andrew, I liked how the color of the burn turned out but I didn't like the shape of the burn. I also love the black but I wasn't sure If I wanted to use black in the final makeup. I feel that the black is a little over powering, especially on the face. I also don't like strait up LC-5 on Andrew's lips. For Kyle's Makeup, I did a few things that I really liked with the burn. first, I did all the shaping before I applied the burn gel but I also painted the area of the burn with reds and LC-5 before applying the gel. I did something in the application of the burn gel that I really liked: I sort of carved a line in the gel which gave me an interesting texture to work with.
Final Exam Project Research
For My final exam I will be creating a makeup inspired by the character Zuko from the animated series Avatar: The Last Air Bender. This character was burned with special fire in his late childhood. This has left him with a scar covering his left eye, eliminating his left eyebrow and spanning down his cheek. For this portion of my research I have in order:
- Three pictures of the character from the animated show at varing times in his life.
- One picture of the character in the 2010 live action movie. I do not like this make up at all. I think the scar is much to subtle however they may have opted to make it less graphic in order to be more child friendly.
- Four picture of fans cosplaying the character. I found these images on on the internet and chose these particular ones because they are each noticeably different from the other. It is so interesting to see how one part of one character can pull so much creativity out of people. (I will reblog the original posts of the cosplays I found on tumblr from users thefirelordtriumphant and idworkforabstergo)
- Lastly I have two fan drawn pictures of the character. I feel that the last one really captures the spirit of the character and I like how both depictions blend an animated style of art with a more life like style.

FX Exam Scamatics
Beard Stubble, Black Eye, Broken Nose, Burn
I'm very sorry the burn looks so terrible. I'm not very good at drawing hands...as you can see. I will type out all the instructions if need be.
Lab Hours
8:30am-9:15
I worked on facial hair. I think my Stipple mustashe is a bit square and the shape of my beard is off.
I think the shape of my crape hair goatee is fine but the hair is going crazy in every which direction.
Lab Hours 11/13/14
12:00-2:45
I worked on Em today. For the first chunk of time I gave my self a Glam refresher. Sami taught me how to use cake eye liner for Trouble in Tahiti. I'd never worked with cake eye liner and I've never done winged eye liner that intense. I think it worked out pretty well! I just forgot to put blush on her and I could have made her nose straighter... it kind of looks like this )(.
Then I broke Em's nose. I think the wax should have been smoothed down more but the shadow is pretty good. The black eye could have been darker (Suprise!) but the cut looks cool.
I did a black eye on myself. This eye is darker but in the picture it looks solid in places. it also looks in risk of creeping below my orbital socket.
Exam - Middle and Old Age
Middle age- I needed to darken the makeup to the value of the forehead wrinkles. I was confident about my placing.
Old age - I felt pretty good about everything except the lines on the lips and the forehead wrinkles. I think the lines on the lips are too thick but I couln't get my brush any thinner.I think her eye area looks great! The eye bags may be a bit too thick but other than that I think it looks good.
(schematics to come)
Modeling for Makeup II
I was Sami's model from 1:00pm - 3:30pm on Friday, Oct 24.
Lab Hours -10/23/14
8:15am-9:15am
I worked on nose shapes a, b, c, and d I think I could have blended the shadow out more because it looks a bit blocky and streaky but I think I got the basic idea. Then I moved on to working on middle and old age around the mouth area. I find this area the most difficult other than the forehead. I feel that the lines on and around my lips are too thick and dark but my nasal labial folds and the maxilla area look pretty good.
Lab Hours - 8:15-9:30
I worked on Middle and Old Age Makeup, focusing on the lab problems and aging myself more and more with skin textureng. I think all the lines around my mouth and chin are good except for the lines on my actual lips. They just look like lines instead of having depth or change. My Forehead wrinlkes look a little crazy. I think I should make them longer and not try so hard to follow the natural creases in my forehead. My eye Area looks a little sloppy but I think it is because I tried to fit too much detail in a small area.I should have done crows feet around my eyes but over all I think it was a fairly successful makeup.
Lab Hours - 10/16/14
8:20-9:20
I worked on eye bags, jowls and two stages of nasal labial folds. I also did an older age for jowls but I apparently did not take a picture. At the end I played around with changing the texture his forehead. I need to bump up the contrast quite a bit by adding more highlight overall. I think the nasal labial folds look good however, without the rest of the makeup, look like young middle age and slightly later middle age. On is left side, near the nasal, I took the makeup too far out and didn't blend properly. For the Jowls, I need to blend down more and not make that line so harsh.
Lab Hours 10/14(?)/14
8:30-9:00
I worked for a half an hour before class on eye bags, forehead wrinkles and nasal labial folds. The only things that look successful in retrospect is the nasal labial folds. the placement of my forehead wrinkles, while lined up with my natural forehead wrinkles, look ridiculous, I think my brush was much too thick.
