CMM - PE - MY YEAR
This year has gone by quicker than expected but nevertheless it has been full of fun, great experiences, breathtaking trips & overall a huge learning experience. Throughout the year I have taken part in many workshops to further my knowledge in all kinds of different areas of media, these have been delivered to me and my class by our main tutors Saoirse, Lewis, Ben, Andy and a few others that have been brought in from outside of uni or from another department to give us a deeper understanding of their specialised profession and/or area of work. At the beginning of the year Saoirse gave us a closer look and deeper insight into what she does outside and alongside teaching at uni and I must say it was quite interesting following her research and travels all over the world. She introduced us to a project she was working on with the HD GoPro cameras attached to huge balloons to capture aerial views; we all had a go of this our selves and took our own balloons with the GoPro's around uni and outside and also presented what it was we were doing with a group of school children that came to visit the uni BBC where also present that day. After that our next step was taking part in the 3D printing event where we were working alongside Hayley Walsh discussing our involvement in the Future of 3D printing event we had many ideas but we couldn't fully incorporate them due to the short space of time given so we were just there to give a helping hand on the night; it was a great event with people showing us what they could do with this new found technology. We were joined by a scientist, business woman & creative artist showing us, how we can use 3D Printing to help people that have lost limbs, replace eyes, make weapons and a variety of interesting things that it could be used for. After that the next workshop I remember was 3D modelling this was taught to us by Andy, not only did he teach us 3D modelling but thought out the year he has also taught us a great deal of different animation techniques and the use of Photoshop and other helpful animation/video editing programs and has proved himself to be quite an expert in what he does. I and a few others felt privileged at times working with Andy after he told us more about him and what he's taken part in previous to working at this university such as the teenage mutant ninja turtles & some other animations that air on CBBC. Throughout the year Lewis was the one that delivered most of our projects and briefs he helped us were he could with a workshop helping us with our web & multimedia classes and another one towards the start of the year where we discussed our first project with the 2nd years and have each other insight and advice on what we were each doing. Ben came in and taught us about projection mapping using a program that he created himself, we also learnt that he's part of a company alongside teaching at uni so most of the people that teach us are working practitioners which I think is good as you can never learn too much. We then took a trip to London to visit the Mozilla Media Festival near the 02 arena this was full of people from the UK and even the USA teaching a variety of workshops and showcasing their skills. On the day I took part in an App making workshop to develop my very own app for my phone but due to technical issues we weren't able to proceed so instead we created a web App about the event it was quite useful learning a bit more about coding and very helpful towards our web & multimedia classes. After we returned from London we got straight back to work with two different workshops with Ben & Chris; one was super 8 film and the other was working with sound and recording it the old fashioned way. We were given a choice on what we wanted to work with for our project so we chose super 8 film for the first part and started recording and working with film noir. Later on we had an induction to using 35mm films in case we wanted to use it for our projects; using the red room and developing our own photos but I decided to go with photocopy art instead using Xerox art which Lewis had quite some insight in. Our final trip of the year was to Berlin where we spent 3days learning all of their artistic culture and generally taking in the city and seeing what great sights it has to offer. I think the best part of the trip was visiting and signing on the Berlin Wall overall it was a good trip and you could just tell the city was full of life and creativity there were some great pieces of art all over the city.

Unit x games day; it was alright the drone was quite interesting
I chose four different locations; the MMU Business School, The New Students Union building, The Library & the Benzie Building.
Outside each there will be a collage representing what each Location is all about the user should be able to know and understand what goes on in each building by just looking at the collage.
Even if they have never seen or aren't familiar with any of the locations listed.
A way to improve this idea would be to make the collages interactive by infusing them with augmented reality so the users could gain additional information about each location by using an app on their phones.
This is the inspiration for my project and where my ideas came from but on a much smaller scale; instead of the huge Tour De France route it’s simply based on different locations in and around the All Saints campus.
