My theory is that their curses have a somewhat amplified āsinful/evilā effect on them (or maybe its related to their cursed fates? I cant remember what williamās one is and cant be bothered to check), so William tries to rob Kate of her freedom by locking her inside after some sort of accident where she gets hurt (hence the blood); in the last part where sheās holding the knife William probably ordered her to kill him (since maybe he realised that heās taking away her freedom and he canāt stand that?) but she stops it with another hand, spilling her blood all over him
