Mushishi: the second season - April 2014
When dreams come true
I stole ten thousand pounds, ten thousand pounds to see you, I robbed convenient stores coz I thought they’d make it easier. I lived off rats and toads, and I starved for you. I fought off giants bears and I killed them too.

Mushishi Special: The Shadow that Devours the Sun
瞼の光
Lexen followed in after Ginko, using her hand to cover her mouth and nose from the smoke. The air in the room was stuffy, warm, and stale from the lack of air movement. Deciding to clear the air, she opened up a window. A light breeze from the ocean wafted through the room and brightened it up quite a bit. When she looked up to the ceiling, a surprising development occurred.
The green smoke that had collected in the roof had shrunken, but not from it leaving the room. No, in fact, it seemed to recoil from the sunlight and cram themselves higher into the room forming a dense cloud over the people.
"Ginko, look." Lexen pointed to the green smoke. Testing her hypothesis, she closed the window darkening the room. The cloud ‘relaxed’ returning to its former level in the room. When she opened it again, it flinched and shrunk just as before.
"I’ll bet anything these guys don’t like the light. Those bridges were pretty dark with the vegetation growing all around it."
He watched the undulating smoke with deep interest. “I wonder… Will only natural light do? Or would placing torches near the bridges suffice to drive out the invasion?” He started to exit the shed. “We could test it. All we need is some kindling.”
Lexen left the window open and proceeded to follow Ginko out of the shed. As she was leaving, one of the villagers grabbed her coat. Looking down, she saw a middle aged man deep with the infection. He gestured for Lexen to kneel down and she complied.
"If you’re going back under the bridges, take care not to breath too deeply." His words were slightly ragged, coughing between every other word. Lexen was confused by his words and asked him what he meant. However, he seemed lost in his mind to the illness and went back to staring into the distance without responding.
She stood up and followed Ginko out of the shed. Once outside Diachi and Tsubaki watched the two of them with hopeful eyes. She closed the door behind them and asked,
"Do you happen to have any kindling? We would like to test out a theory that could help stop the plague spreading."
Tsubaki nodded and rushed back to her home to get a small pile of wood scraps and two flint rocks. Lexen thanked them and piled the wood off to the side. Taking the flint rocks in her hands, she scraped them across each other in an attempt to light the kindling.
Lexen, despite her many skills and experiences, was never very good with lighting a fire on her own. These kinds of survival skills weren’t necessary when magic was around. After a few tries with sparks landing in the kindling but no fire, Lexen gave a little mind scan to see if anyone was watching her before whispering ‘fire’ to the wood.
With one last strike to the rocks, the sparks landed and ‘lit’ up the kindling. Lexen stood and returned the rocks before calling Ginko over to light some torches.
He ambled over to her, carrying bundles of twigs and waxed twine that would serve as torches. They lit easily and gave off a sputtering light.
Night had fallen by the time they made it back to the bridge, and the crescent moon made the marshy water sparkle.
Ginko led the way down, frowning as water seeped into his pants. He used his torch to light another cigarette. "Are you ready?" he asked her quietly.
