Addax looked up from his throne sensing the player that had just come. He teleported near the forest line which is where King Steve stood. âSomeone new is here⊠I donât like his get up though..â he said to himself. Might as well try the nice approach right? Addax started walking towards King Steve with a somewhat devious smile on his face.
He raised a brow but dismissed the x part. âWell my dear King it means I was around during the alpha stages of minecraft. Before the betas brine j made.â He gave a small smirk. His dress up was simple to a kings except he didnât have a crown or cape with him.
Steve frowned ever so slightly. âIâm afraid I havenât the slightest idea what you just said. It does sound like youâve been around for a while, though.â
âSimpler terms yes Iâve been here for quite a while.â Perhaps no one new about the alpha stages of minecraft.. He let out a sigh and looked at King Steve. âWould you like a tour?â He asked.
âHigh and..â He stayed silent for a second. âUsed to be high an noble. Many years ago..â He made a slightly uneasy face remembering him being banished. âWhat would you like to see?â He asked with a small smile.
He entirely ignored the comment about Adraxâs former nobility status, and instead shrugged. âI have no idea what the sights to be seen are. Thatâs where you come in, isnât it?â

The man that had just appeared had his cloak pulled around him and was looking up at the trees, a faint smile on his face. He didnât seem to notice Adrax approaching.
âIndeed.. It is quite nice.â He looked around. âItâs been a while since someone has visited this part of the server.â He said looking at King Steve. âMight I ask your name?â

It was raining.
The throne room was dark today, lit only by torches on walls, and it was empty and quiet as well.
Not that Steve minded, of course, or at least if it bothered him he didnât feel the need to show it.
There was a noise from somewhere far away, and he blinked, closing his eyes and cocking his head to the side. Faint clanging and fainter yelling... it sounded like a fight.
Someone rushed through the doors at the end of the throne room, shouldering them open, and the king sat up.
âSTEVE!â
Lore, of course. The red-haired noble was good at running, and tended to be a bit protective of the leader of the Craftlands. Steve had always suspected that some ulterior motive was at work, but either way it was nice to know that someone was watching his back.
âLore? I heard yelling, whatâs the fight about?â He frowned as his eyes met Loreâs face - the noble was out of breath, and the look on his face was panicked.
âVoid siders got into the castle. Theyâre demanding an âaudienceâ,â the noble responded.
Steve leaned forwards slightly. âMm. And how many of them are there?â
âOnly two, but oneâs also a Storm elementalist. My Lord, surely youâre not considering...â
A sneaky sort of smile spread across the kingâs face. âLock the doors so that they have to either leave or head directly here. And if itâs possible, separate the two of them and only let the Storm elementalist in.â
The red-haired man twisted a hanging strand of his hair nervously. âHow so?â
âDelay the other one somehow. Youâre a good fighter; Iâm sure you have some trick up your sleeve. The point is-â and here he steepled his fingers â-this carpet is new and I donât want it completely bloodstained just yet.â
Arvek slammed through a side door of the throne room, panting.
Somewhere along the line, heâd lost track of his partner in the chaos, but he was absolutely sure sheâd be fine. That wasnât the point, nor was the rather annoying feeling that he had forgotten something.
The point was, he was here now, and he was in an excellent position to get rid of the King.
He snapped his fingers and a small orb of darkness began forming in his hand as he strode towards the throne, snarling.
âHey. Old man, you gonna fight me?â
There was a long silence, and then the figure on the throne shifted slightly. âIâd be willing to, assuming youâd like a quick death.â
He narrowed his jet-black eyes and glared at the man. âHah! Donât think you can win against me.â
The orb had grown large enough, and it was humming ominously. In fact, Arvek had a feeling heâd overcharged it a bit. He drew his arm back, stepped back, and got ready to throw it straight at the throne.
He tossed the orb, and the king brought his left hand up as if to stop it. The darkness hit the outstretched hand and just... stopped. For all of two seconds, even, it just stayed there.
And then it vanished completely. He wasnât sure how, but the orb had definitely just blinked out of existence. He thought he saw something moving across the kingâs palm for a second, some kind of dark lines, but they werenât there long enough for him to be sure.
He stepped back, stunned. âHow...â
The question hung there, awkwardly, and then the man sitting on the throne began to laugh.
Arvek took a step backwards again. âThat was... how...â
The laughter abruptly cut off, and then the king stood up.
âHonestly. I am a chosen hero; why in the world would you assume I donât have powers? And havenât you heard the rumors of Dark elementalism simply not working on me?â
Of course heâd forgotten something. The king claimed to be the Nochite hero, Steve - thatâs what he hadnât remembered.
He stepped back again, although why he kept stepping back was beyond him.
Steve took off his cloak, laying it neatly on the throne, and began to walk towards Arvek slowly.
âReally, I let you get here for this pathetic display?â
The breath caught in his throat. Let me get here? No, he canât mean...
He spread his arms, letting electricity crackle between the palms of his hands, then whipped his right arm forwards and sent it shooting, spear-like, at the king.
For a second, he thought heâd won. The kingâs eyes glazed over momentarily, as if he were seeing something far away.
Then, impossible as it seemed, Steve simply stepped aside.
âNothing else?â the king asked, tipping his head to the side ever so slightly. He shook his left arm slightly, glancing down at it as if annoyed.
Arvek backed up once more, feeling his body brush the wall... exactly what heâd feared would happen. Nowhere to run now.
Maybe I can keep him talking, he seems to like doing that...
The king shook his left arm again as if he were trying to get water off of it.
âNow, I suppose youâd like me to talk until your partner gets here and saves you, yes?â
Arvek blinked - really, it was all he could do at this point. The man seemed to be able to predict everything else.
Steve smiled slightly, a faint turning-up at the corners of his mouth. âSadly for you, she wonât be coming. Not in time, at least.â
He looked down at his left hand. âOne unfortunate thing about this talent of mine is that, well, when I cancel it out it goes somewhere; to be specific it gets stuck here.â
The king raised his arm, moving closer to Arvek, that faint smile still on his face all the while. âStarts hurting after a while, as a matter of fact.â
He sighed, then pressed his hand up against Arvekâs chest. âSorry about this.â
For a second, Arvek could swear he saw a tear in Steveâs eye. Those black lines began to move about on his arm again - he could see them on the kingâs wrist, winding between his fingers.
He shrunk back against the wall, almost not breathing at all. âW-why?â he managed to say, tripping over the words as they exited his mouth.
âSometimes I have to set an example,â Steve responded quietly.
Arvek felt a small pain in the center of his chest for a second, and then whatever pent-up energy the king had in his arm was released in one blast, carving a hole through his torso. He stared down at it blankly.
This doesnât really even hurt, he thought.
And then, as people with gaping wounds in their chests tend to do, he died.
Lore was good at expecting things, so when he opened the doors to the throne room again, he was absolutely unsurprised to see Steve sitting on the throne, refastening his cloak.
âSheâs gone,â he said.
The king nodded. âWonderful job. Would you mind seeing to this manâs burial?â
He jerked his head towards the right wall, where a man was slumped up against it.
The noble knew better than to ask how the fight had gone, or how the man had died. He was a Void sider, and heâd been attacking the king - even the former alone was a death sentence.
Still, something in the way Steve had spoken made him pause.
âYour Majesty, are you...?â he began hesitantly, then stopped. It wasnât his place to ask anything like that.
The king looked up from the floor again and spoke in a soft, quiet tone - not one Lore had heard ever before.
âNo. Iâm definitely not okay, if thatâs what you were going to ask.â He rubbed his temples, then spoke again. âBut itâs not exactly something that can be helped.â
The noble frowned. âIs there a reas-â
âLore. Please, just go.â
The last thing he wanted to do was leave, but Steve definitely sounded like he needed the time alone. The kingâs voice was strained, as if even talking was too much of an effort.
He bowed his head, then picked up the dead body and walked out of the room without speaking further.
He stayed slumped in the throne for the longest time, eyes closed.
Steve hated anyone seeing him like this, least of all Lore. The noble understood some things, yes - they were close on many levels.
However, there was no denying that the two were different when it came to their views on combat and death.
The king preferred to avoid the subject completely, as even the thought of killing someone made his head hurt.
When he actually had to go through with it, though, even in a case where the only other option was his own death, he tended to become hopelessly despondent for days on end.
He was good at pretending to be callous in the heat of the moment; heâd always been a good actor.
But no matter how horrible of a person theyâd been, it didnât stop him from hurting after the fact.
