🎃 YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO
After having purchased a large pumpkin, along with some eggs, butter, cheese, and milk, Baxter was feeling rather satisfied with how the night had proceeded thus far. Not only had they been able to escape out to this quiet little farm for the evening, but it was very out of range. She had been thinking about taking on the mystery box game (rather confident in her ability to win) when she had spotted them, standing in their usual straight-backed manner by themselves near the edge of the pathway, their long cape sweeping the floor and swirling a wine glass full of what she could correctly deduce as not-wine. She stopped in her tracks, staring at them for a few seconds before letting out a snicker. She swung herself around, making her way behind them undetected, and placed her pumpkin down on the ground next to her before slowly and deftly sliding her fingers onto the bot’s shoulders.“Fancy seein’ YOU here, Scratch. I didn’t think this was your type o’ shindig.”
Mmhm. Likely story. NOT. Probably just out here to mess with people, which would be a respectable past time if it weren’t… her. Gotta really reel this in though, Scratch wasn’t going to lose whatever this mess was.
“Oh, but of course. I was getting a little ahead of myself, wasn’t I.” And with that, they went for it. With swift robotic precision, they dipped Baxter, keeping their gaze locked with hers (if they could see hers). Gotta have one last show for the small crowd this had certainly attracted, and as if Scratch was gonna let her take that opportunity.
“The cornfield would be a great place to continue this, no?” They lowered their volume to a whisper. Of course they had seen the rather ominous signs the farmer had put up saying to stay OUT of the cornfield, but this was personal. Breaking the rules a little wouldn’t hurt.
Well, wouldn’t hurt for Scratch at least.
Baxter huffed at the dip, the position being rather uncomfortable for her. at their suggestion of the cornfield, they let out a hum and seemed to think for a few seconds before responding.
“Hm. So be it. Shall we go?”

ask-lilith:
A hum came from Baxter as she watched Scratch’s expression change and pull her closer.
“I s’pose that child o’ yours must be very persuasive to have been able to drag you all the way out here…..” She placed two fingers on the underside of their head and tilted their head to theirs. “But speaking of things that are lovely…..”
“Does ya ‘mistress’ know that you’re out here? I imagine she’s awful lonely with ya gone. Perhaps even lonely enough to call…….another companion to her side for the evenin’? Hmmmm?” She whispered, leaning in so that the tip of her nose just barely touched the middle of Scratch’s face. It was also at that exact moment that the phone in Baxter’s dress pocket decided to vibrate.
what splendid timing.
UGH, WHY THAT LITTLE-!!
“I’m sure she’ll be just fine. Let’s not think about her tonight, this moment is ours.” Making a show of dropping their wine glass on the ground, they gently grasped Baxter’s waist, covering up that pesky cellphone in her pocket. Oh, would you look at that? How strategically placed.
“She’s a big girl now, she doesn’t need me following her around like some lost animal. Besides, what she doesn’t know won’t kill her…” Relocating the hand that was intertwined with hers, they put a finger to her lips. “But one moment. It’s my turn to play 20 questions, what ever brings you here tonight, my darling?” Eww. “I certainly never took you for the partying type.”
Baxter watched Scratch dramatically drop their wine glass and stared at the now wasted liquid and broken glass on the ground for a few seconds before they felt a hand snaked around their waist and cover their cellphone. They felt.......almost disgusted. She wasn't really listening until one of their fingers came up to press softly against their painted lips and they asked why she was here. She thought about it for a moment before speaking.
"Why, I jus' came here for some farm produce!" She motioned towards her large, perfectly shaped pumpkin behind them on the ground. "I may not be th' partyin' type, but I sure do like to appreciate some good food, as you know from the various times I've been invited over~" She looked around at the people watching them with curiousity and finally decided that enough was enough, however. She drew the line at the finger on the lips. One last push. With Scratch's finger still on her lips, she leaned in as close as she could to their face without having them touch outright and whispered.
"If you wish to continue in this inconsequential interaction, be my guest. But if you want REAL conversation I SUGGEST we take this ELSEWHERE." There was a sickeningly sweet venom to her quiet voice, one that only Scratch would be able to hear and pick up. They'd get the hint.
🎃!! [did i send one in already?? if I have, feel free to ignore this one!]
“Excuse me, miss?” Bartholomew really hoped he wouldn’t frighten her by calling out to her. “Um, I really like your dress! It’s very lovely!”
Ernie nearly rolled his eyes into the back of his head at the display. Bartholomew knew he liked to be complemented, so he made it a point to complement someone if he really liked something about them. Of course Ernie thought this was kinda stupid and watching him fumble as he talked to someone new always gave him a good dose of second hand embarrassment.
with a graceful flourish, Baxter turned her body around to face the strangers, a wide smile gracing her painted lips as she looked Bart and Ernie up and down.
“Why, thank ya, sir! You’re lookin’ mighty fine yourself there! Howl, correct? A rather nice choice, if I do say so myself!” She then turned to Ernie. “And i’m quite a fan of your magikoopa outfit as well!.” She took another step towards them both.
“So, what brings you two out here to the farmlands? Just here for the party?”
Ernie narrowed his eyes at her and slowly crossed his arms. He decided in that quick moment that he didn’t like, nor did he trust this lady. Of course, he didn’t like or trust a lot of people, but he got a funky vibe from her that was hard to articulate other than, ‘If I was stuck in a pit, this gal would throw a bucket of snakes down into it and laugh at me’.
Bartholomew smiled and adjusted his jacket a bit. “Why thank you~! But, ah, Ernie here is supposed to be Markl!” He corrected her ever so politely, and almost leaned over to look at her more easily. Ernie leaned away from her, though, still quietly eyeing her.
Bartholomew gave a small nod. “Yep! Well, I’ve been meaning to drop by here and see the place anyway. A friend of my works here, or.. well lives here, but I’ve been meaning to visit for a little while now! Are you here for the party? It’s awful nice so far!”
Baxter took note of Ernie's distaste for her, and promptly ignored. Couldn't be in EVERY random strangers good graces now, could she?? Plus, she didn't particuarly care what this small gremlin thought of her. If they weren't going to confront her, then it wasn't her problem, frankly. She looked at him from behind hooded eyes, her small smile never faltering, and one could swear there was almost a glow coming from behind the long fringe for a split second before it vanished as she turned to Bart once again,
"Ah, I see! Well, visitin' friends is always nice, isn't it? Personally, I simply saw an invitation on the street, and decided to travel here for some produce. I've come here mostly on the hunt for a good ol' pumpkin, but i'm finding it rather hard to walk away with just that!" she let out a soft, pleasant laugh before looking down to her boots briefly. "I suppose it is a rather nice party so far. Its a rather lovely farm, after all. I do hope I get the chance to visit here again after this here party is all said and done......."
She suddenly gasped and snapped her gaze back up to Bart.
"Goodness gravy I never gave you name now, did I???" She gave a small curtsy to the two boys "Please, Call me Baxter. Baxter Flinnigan."
🎃 !!!
“Excuse me miss, I hate to be a bother but those shades of brown just look wonderful on you! Its truly your color!”
Baxter bounced back at the sudden compliment. She sure had been getting a lot of those tonight! It hadn't quite been what she was expecting, if she were to be quite honest......this much attention had really been the thing she had been AVOIDING. But, ah well, she Supposed it was all inconsequential in the end. She smiled at Dee warmly and clasped her hands in front of her.
"Ah, you're not being a bother at all!! why, thank ya! Most people tend to regard brown as a rather BORING colour, so It makes me happy that I seem t'be givin' the colour a better reputation!" She gave Dee a quick look up and down from behind her long fringe, which went unseen. She then politely curtsied. "M'names Baxter. Baxter Flinnigan. And who might you be, if ya don't mind me askin'? You from round these parts?"

A single eye twitched. If Scratch had a gag reflex and wasn’t also a robot, they would have been retching on the spot. So this is the game she was playing, huh? Absolutely downright DISGUSTING. Well two could certainly play at that game. She wants dirty, let’s get dirty.
Their expression shifted to the most pleasant (and somewhat sultry) they could manage at the moment. Time to turn the charm up to 11.
“Thank you ever so much for that… Dear.” Ew. “It’s quite true, this isn’t my usual fare, is it? I felt awful leaving behind my dear city and it’s exquisite Halloween parties, but a young friend of mine insisted on it. And, well…” They made a grab for the hand that pulled away, as gently and tenderly as they could manage, closing the distance between the two ever so slightly. “The stars are oh so lovely here, unlike the city, don’t you agree?”
A hum came from Baxter as she watched Scratch’s expression change and pull her closer.

Franklin couldn’t help but notice the lovely guest hovering near the table laden with goods. “Miss, I simply m-must c-compliment you on y-your lovely dress! M-my name is Franklin, it’s w-wonderful to m-make your acquaintance, M-Miss…?”
Baxter Flashed Franklin a beaming smile and waved her hand in front of her.
“Why, thank you, darlin’! But this ol’ thing has nothin’ on your fancy lil’ esemble there! A ghostbuster, hmm??” She giggled. “How amusing.” She held out a gloved hand, a smile still present on her face.
“Pleasure to meet you, sir. My name is Baxter Flinnigan.”

Scratch was certainly caught off guard by the sudden sensation of movement, almost spilling their glass. Who would ever dare!? How were they supposed to look cool without that! They swiveled their head around to face the attacker, followed swiftly by their torso, cape flailing behind. They didn’t even stop to think before speaking out.
“Excuse me, but I believe you almost spilled my drink with your little jest! Just who do you think you…” Wait a second. Something was wrong. Something was VERY wrong. “How did you know my… name…”
It took a few seconds and a quick DNA scan, but Scratch’s optics went wide when the realization hit them. They’d know that disgusting bio structure ANYWHERE. God, not here, not now!
They still had their legs facing the other way too, how embarrassing.
Baxter laughed, letting out a broken squeak. How truly amusing they were.
“How well met, Scratch! You’re lookin’ mighty shocked! Did I really spook ya that bad?” She looked down to their backwards legs. “You’re lookin’ a little....contorted there, darlin’. Lemme help ya with that there problem.” She placed one hand just under their left speaker, and another on their torso, slowly walking around to their front, turning their upper half along with them. they took their hand away from their torso, but kept the hand under their speaker in place, choosing to slide their hand across the underside of their face before pulling it away, a sultry smile across their lips.
“Now, ain’t that MUCH better? So, whats a city slicker like yourself doin’ alllllll the way out here? didn’t take you for a ‘local celebration’ type.”
